NRL Injury News Summary – Round 10

-    Rabbitohs star Jack Wighton suffered a fractured arm in Newcastle, while Broncos outside back Deine Mariner underwent limb-saving surgery for acute compartment syndrome.

-    Wests Tigers were rocked by injuries to Adam Doueihi (shoulder) and Samuela Fainu (foot), with coach Benji Marshall flagging four to six weeks for Doueihi.

-    Bulldogs forward Viliame Kikau and Manly's Corey Waddell are both facing up to 12 weeks on the sidelines after pectoral surgery.

-    Dolphins forward Daniel Saifiti has announced his medical retirement after failing to recover from a Round 8 shoulder injury sustained in 2025.

Wighton and Mariner the Big-Name Casualties

The Rabbitohs were dealt a major blow at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday when Jack Wighton suffered a fractured arm in the 20th minute against the Knights.

The veteran centre cut a dejected figure on the bench with his arm in a sling, leaving Souths with another headache on top of David Fifita's hamstring concerns.

Down at Allianz Stadium, Broncos’ flyer Deine Mariner faced a far scarier ordeal. Initially believed to have copped a heavy cork, Mariner courageously returned to the field before the severity of an acute compartment syndrome injury to his right thigh was identified.

He was rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for limb-saving surgery in the early hours of Sunday morning, with Brisbane's Chief Medical Officer Matt Hislop praising the medical staff involved.

Head Knocks and HIA Drama at Allianz

The Broncos-Roosters clash also claimed Adam Reynolds (Category 1 head knock) and Roosters duo Lindsay Collins (head knock) and Mark Nawaqanitawase (syndesmosis), the latter undergoing surgery on Monday.

Roosters representative back-rower Angus Crichton sustained a minor MCL sprain, with coach Trent Robinson confirming scans were underway.

Manly's Kobe Hetherington and Warriors hooker Wayde Egan were also ruled out via failed HIAs, while Bulldogs utility Kurt Mann copped a Category 1 head knock against the Sea Eagles.

Long-Term Blows and a Heartbreaking Retirement

The list of long-term absentees grew significantly:

Viliame Kikau (Bulldogs) – up to 12 weeks after pectoral surgery

Corey Waddell (Sea Eagles) – up to 12 weeks following pec surgery

Jake Turpin (Bulldogs) – ruptured bicep confirmed by coach Cameron Ciraldo

Jeremiah Nanai (Cowboys) – at least a month with a re-aggravated shoulder

Tyran Wishart (Storm) – ankle injury sustained scoring against the Dolphins

The most heartbreaking news came from Redcliffe, with Dolphins forward Daniel Saifiti announcing his medical retirement.

The shoulder injury he suffered scoring a try against the Raiders in Round 8 of 2025 has not responded to surgery and rehabilitation, ending a powerful front-row career.

Halfback Headaches Mounting

Halfbacks copped it across the round. Adam Doueihi dislocated his shoulder scoring the Tigers' opening try against Cronulla, while Eels hooker Ryley Smith was helped from CommBank Stadium with a sternum injury inside ten minutes.

Canberra's woes continued too, with Joe Roddy adding a broken hand to a casualty ward already featuring Ethan Strange, Zac Hosking and Noah Martin.

With clubs juggling rosters as we head into Round 10, the wagering markets are set for plenty of movement.
