Who Will Be the Next Prime Minister of Australia Prediction

With the next federal election scheduled to be held sometime in 2028, the race to be Australia’s next Prime Minister is heating up.
Current incumbent Anthony Albanese has already highlighted his intention to lead Labor into a third term should he get the chance, but there are plenty of potential candidates who have different plans in mind.
It’s important to note unlike American politics, you won’t see celebrity names in the vein of LeBron James, Taylor Swift and Oprah being thrown around here. We take our politics seriously, although is anyone else curious how Hugh Jackman would go as PM?
Well according to the current odds, it doesn’t look like we’ll ever get the chance to find out. That being said, here are the frontrunners to become the next Prime Minister of Australia.
Who Will Be the Next Prime Minister of Australia?
Anthony Albanese
Just like a defending premier in any sport, the title is currently Albo’s to lose. It’s not uncommon for defending champions to be installed as favourites to defend their crown, and that trend continues here with the Labor leader leading the market at the time of writing.
Can he retain the top spot in Canberra or will one of these potential candidates kick him to the curb and move into Parliament House?
Pauline Hanson
Believe it or not, One Nation leader Pauline Hanson is currently the second favourite to become the next Prime Minister of Australia, despite not fronting one of the two major parties. Australia, please explain.
No party outside of Labor and the Coalition has formed a government since the Liberal Party was founded in the 1940s, so it would be quite the upset if Hanson and One Nation were to do so.
Angus Taylor
Next up in the race for PM is leader of the opposition Angus Taylor. He took over as leader of Liberal Party from Sussan Ley earlier this year and will aim to become the first conservative PM since ScoMo back in 2022.
First things first though he’ll need to unite the Liberal Party, broaden voter appeal, and present a credible national governing agenda before he starts picking out wallpaper for Parliament House.
Andrew Hastie
If Angus can’t get it done for the Libs, maybe Andrew Hastie can? He's second in command under Taylor as Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives, and leadership spills in the lead up to elections are far from uncommon these days.
If he wants the top job in Canberra, he’ll have to get the top job in the Liberal Party first.
Jim Chalmers
Rounding out the leaders for who will be the next Prime Minister of Australia market is current Treasurer Jim Chalmers.
Chalmers has served under Albanese since 2022 and while we can’t see him stabbing his mate in the back, if Labor decides to go in a different direction ahead of the next election, Jimbo would be an obvious pick.
With likely still over a year until the next Federal Election is officially called, there’s still plenty of time for PM candidates to emerge and disappear.
That’s why you should keep an eye on all the favourites in this market over on Sportsbet, as well as all the other Australian political markets that are available.
