Fans of democracy and music rejoice. The Triple J Hottest 100 is on the horizon, with voting set to open very soon.

In recent years, the once alternative countdown has been invaded by major pop artists and viral TikTok hits.

So, hang on to your fedoras and lace up your Doc Martens, because it looks like the major label smashes are here to shake things up once again.

Will one of the big bangers take out the top spot like last year? Or will a jangly Aussie indie band emerge from the wilderness to steal the Hottest 100 crown like the days of old?

Let’s take a look at who’s in the running for one of Aussie music’s highest honours. Our 2025 Triple J Hottest 100 predictions are below.

Triple J Hottest 100 Predictions – Winning Artist

The Favourites

Olivia Dean

Looking to complete a hat-trick of female winners is the UK’s latest superstar songstress Olivia Dean.

With Doja Cat winning in 2023 and then Chappell Roan topping last year’s countdown, if Dean does dominate as the odds suggest, it will be the first time ever a female artist has topped the countdown three years in a row.

Her viral hit “Man I Need” has her in pole position at the moment, while her other banger “Nice to Each Other” is also well in the running.

Keli Holiday

Peking Duk’s Adam Hyde’s decision to go solo as Keli Holiday continues to prove to be a shrewd one, as he is currently the second favourite to take out this year’s Triple J Hottest 100.

Can he go one better than his main act, who came runners up in 2014 with their certified banger “High”? Watch this space.

Dom Dolla

We are officially in the age of the DJ. Following directly on from Keli Holiday, is fellow Aussie master of the decks, Dom Dolla.

A fixture of the top 10 of the Hottest 100 over the last few years, Dolla (real name Dominic Matheson) landed at number seven last year and at number three the year before that.

Can he record his best ever placing this year or better yet, take out the Triple J Hottest 100?

Spacey Jane

When you’ve nearly taken out top spot before and you drop new material, you’re always going to be heavily favoured to feature once again at the pointy end of the Hottest 100.

Exhibit A – Spacey Jane. The Fremantle foursome are one of Aussie indie’s last stands and will be hoping to go one better than their 2020 effort, which saw them come second with their smash “Booster Seat”.

Under the Radar Options

Lorde

What was that? Another belter from New Zealand’s finest Lorde of course! The Kiwi superstar returned to the airwaves this year and though her star has dimmed a little over the last decade, she’s still music royalty in Triple J’s eyes.

Flume

Perhaps the artist now most synonymous with the Hottest 100, if Flume makes a sound, it is inevitably going to be considered for a lofty position in the famous Triple J countdown.

Alex Warren

From YouTube to the top of the charts, to first place in the Triple J Hottest 100? Never say never, Alex Warren is the latest folk-pop megastar to be birthed by the internet and is immensely popular Down Under at the moment.

Triple J Hottest 100 Predictions – Winning Song

The Favourites

Man I Need (Olivia Dean)

Olivia Dean’s forward, fun and flirty ode to knowing you deserve to be loved, appears to be the clear frontrunner for this year’s Hottest 100 crown.

“Man I Need” is the song of the moment right now and recency bias is always a real factor when it comes to topping this countdown. It also helps when the track is this damn good too.

Dancing 2 (Keli Holiday)

Adam Hyde’s ode to Abbey Chatfield, “Dancing2” could very well be aided and abetted by the polarising Aussie it couple.

Love them or hate them, there’s no arguing that this Keli Holiday offering is a smash. Will we all be Dancing2 when the number one song of the 2026 Hottest 100 is revealed? The odds say we very well could be.

Dreamin (Dom Dolla)

After a couple of close calls, there’s no doubt Aussie Dom Dolla will be Dreamin about the top spot in this year’s Hottest 100.

It was nominated for both Song of the Year and Best Dance/Electronic Release at this year’s ARIA Awards and has all the credentials of a worthy winner of Triple J’s iconic countdown.

What Was That (Lorde)

Good Lorde! She’s back and with some song too! What Was That is the latest in a long line of Lorde bops.

The sparse, yet still somehow sizzling synth-pop single received wide spread critical acclaim upon its April release this year, now will it receive the votes of the Aussie public? Let’s wait and see.

Under the Radar Options

Ordinary (Alex Warren)

There’s nothing ordinary about this track. Topping the charts both overseas and most importantly Down Under, Alex Warren’s “Ordinary” has been everywhere this year.

In fact, its major pop appeal could be its biggest detractor for the notoriously snobby Triple J fanbase.

Golden (HUNTR/X)

Could a fictional band take out the Hottest 100 this year? Well, potentially. HUNTR/X technically only exist in the animated musical fantasy film KPop Demon Hunters.

However, the original track “Golden”, performed by the group in the film has become such a hit, that it has transcended the confines of its fictional universe and gone viral in the real world.

It’s even got its own special Hottest 100 market where punters can try and predict it’s final placing, if it is to make the top 100.
