NBA Rookie of the Year 2026-27 Betting Predictions

NBA Rookie of the Year Race

Four rookies, four different teams and barely anything between them in the market. AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, Cameron Boozer and Caleb Wilson went one, two, three and four in June's draft, and the Rookie of the Year betting has them almost dead level.

Talent won't separate this group. Opportunity will.

Before we get to our full preview, here are the key details:

NBA Rookie of the Year 2026-27: Boozer and Peterson

Cameron Boozer landed in the perfect spot. Memphis drafted him third and the Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. era is over, so he walks straight into a rebuild as the franchise's centrepiece.

He's projected to start at power forward alongside Zach Edey, with the offence built around his passing and decision-making. He showed the full package in Summer League with 18.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.8 steals, leading Memphis to the championship game.

Darryn Peterson went second to Utah and looks set to start in the backcourt next to Keyonte George. He's a fluid three-level scorer who averaged 20.7 points and 4.0 assists in Summer League. Utah will give him the ball and let him learn on the job.

Wilson, Dybantsa and the Outsiders

Caleb Wilson might have been the most impressive rookie of the summer. The Bulls' number four pick averaged 23.5 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.5 blocks while hitting 41.9% from three. The catch is that he shares the floor with Josh Giddey and Norman Powell, which could cap his touches.

The number one pick is the outsider of the big four, and the reason is clear. AJ Dybantsa put up 25.0 points a game in Summer League, but on 39.4% shooting and 9.1% from three. In Washington he'll share the ball with Trae Young and Anthony Davis, which is great for his development but not ideal for his counting stats.

Behind the top four, Darius Acuff Jr. (Kings) and Yaxel Lendeborg (Warriors) are the next names in the market after strong Summer League showings.

Betting Markets and Odds

This market is unusually tight at the top. The four lottery picks make up the overwhelming majority of the market, with a big drop to the rest of the class.

Rookie of the Year voting tends to reward volume. Points, minutes and highlight plays on a team with plenty of touches to go around carry more weight than efficiency on a contender.

That makes role the key question for each of the favourites. The market is also likely to move sharply in the opening weeks, as early scoring nights and starting roles become clear. With so much riding on those opening weeks, it is worth knowing exactly when the NBA season starts so you can be across the race from tip-off.

All four favourites also feature among the long shots in the MVP market, which shows how highly this class is rated. For the latest NBA Rookie of the Year odds and markets, check out our dedicated odds page here at Sportsbet.

NBA Rookie of the Year 2026-27 Prediction

Our pick: Cameron Boozer

Boozer has the clearest path to the numbers voters reward. Of the four favourites, he's the only one walking into a team that has cleared the decks for him, with Memphis moving on from Morant and Jackson. He'll start, he'll play big minutes and the offence will run through him.

His Summer League stat line showed why. 18.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists is the all-round profile that fills a box score every night, and leading Memphis to the championship game shows he can drive winning as well.

Peterson and Wilson can both outscore him on their best nights, but neither has the same certainty of role. Dybantsa has the talent but faces the most competition for the ball.

The danger is his three-point shot, which is still developing. If defences sag off him, his efficiency could dip. Even so, Boozer has the role, the minutes and the all-round game to win this race.
