Bells Beach Pro 2024 Preview

28/03/2024|SB Staff|Misc Tips & Predictions

Australia’s very own Bells Beach Pro is the longest running event in competitive surfing and an annual highlight of the World Surf League calendar.

Held at Bells Beach in the town of Torquay, which is the home of Rip Curl, it’s no surprise the iconic brand sponsors the event.

The Rip Curl Pro, or the Bells Beach Pro as it’s also known, is historically a very important event for professional surfing.

This event has a storied list of former champions with names like Kelly Slater, Mick Fanning and Tyler Wright among those who have triumphed at Bells.

Who will add their name to that list this year at the 2024 Bells Beach Pro? For the latest news, odds, betting tips and predictions, check out our Bells Beach Pro 2024 Preview below.

Bells Beach Pro 2024 Men’s Preview & Predictions

Ethan Ewing

Australian prodigy Ethan Ewing will enter this event as the defending champ after taking our last year’s edition.

He also currently sits second in this season’s WSL rankings. His ultra smooth rail game is tailor made for the waves Bells Beach is known to produce, as was evident last season as he glided his way to the trophy.

He’ll enter this comp with plenty of confidence after a second placed finish in Portugal last week and with the loud locals on his side he has every chance of successfully defending his Torquay title.

Griffin Colapinto

Despite only making the quarter finals last year, American Griffin Colapinto currently sits at number one in this season’s rankings.

He turned in a monster showing in tricky Portugal to record a strong win in that event and will ride into Bells on a wave of momentum.

His diverse skill set caters nicely to the big open face wave of Bells, with all signs indicating he is set for a big performance Down Under.

John John Florence

Finally, we have veteran John John Florence. He is always a perennial threat at this stop and has started 2024 off with some relatively strong showings.

A former world champion, JJF always performs well at Bells, winning this event in 2019, as well as collecting a number of podium finishes over the years.

Predicted winner: Ethan Ewing - An Australian, who is the defending champ of this event, which takes place in Australia? How could we tip anyone else?

Bells Beach Pro 2024 Women’s Preview & Predictions

Molly Picklum

Aussie phenom Molly Picklum is the current world number one of women’s surfing and is carrying some serious momentum off the back of 1st and 2nd place finishes at the two opening WSL tour stops of the year.

She wasn’t at her best in Portugal, but Bells is the perfect place for her to bounce back. She finished second here last year and when she’s on song, she’s borderline unstoppable. We expect her smooth style to cater well to this swell.

Tyler Wright

Coming off a win at the most recent WSL tour stop in Portugal, Tyler Wright will head to Bells Beach with momentum on her side.

She won this event last year and will be hoping to do so again in 2024. Her elite power surfing compliments this open-face, deep water wave better than most, ensuring she will be there or thereabouts once again this time around.

Caroline Marks

The 2023 world champ may only be sitting at number five in the rankings at the moment, but don’t let that fool you.

Caroline Marks is a no brainer pick if you’re going off experience and past performances.

The 22-year-old American has a slew of impressive finishes at Bells, including two third place finishes in 2018 and 2019 when she was still just a teenager.

Predicted winner: Molly Picklum - Aussie Aussie Aussie. We’re backing a sweep for our local legends in both the men’s and women’s brackets.
