The 2026 MotoGP season is back with a bang this weekend after a near-month hiatus, starting with the British GP. The race is scheduled for Sunday, August 9, and is set to start at 22:00 AEST at Silverstone.

It will have been four weeks since they were last in competitive racing, with that race being the German GP at Sachsenring.

Marc Márquez claimed victory, as he usually does when in Germany, with Ai Ogura crossing the line in second after securing his maiden victory in the race before.

Following Márquez’s victory, the leaderboard has become even tighter than it already was. Jorge Martín continues to lead the standings, but Ogura has tightened the gap to 14 points. 

Márquez is sitting in third, just four points behind the Japanese racer. Marco Bezzecchi, meanwhile, is a further four points behind the Spaniard, with Fabio Di Giannantonio back in fifth.

Silverstone is one of the longest and fastest circuits on the MotoGP calendar, with long sweeping corners, a 770m straight, and a 20-lap race distance, so riders who manage high-speed flow, front-end feel, and tyre life tend to stand out.

German GP winner Márquez appears to be a strong contender in the upcoming British GP. His race profile suits Silverstone, as the track rewards flow, change of direction, and confidence on the front end. 

If Márquez can find his rhythm and confidence, he may be able to separate himself from the rest of the field early on and look to power on.

However, there have been recent reports that he isn’t back at his 2025 best, with it having been suggested he is dealing with a shoulder injury and fitness issues, while his early-race pace has been inconsistent.

Márquez will likely be the favourite to win the upcoming 2026 MotoGP British GP, given his form and race profile.

He has a strong Silverstone record, with one MotoGP win there in 2014, plus a very close second in 2019 when Álex Rins beat him by just 0.014 seconds. 

He’s also had multiple podiums at the track and has often been one of the fastest qualifiers there, with Silverstone stats crediting him with three MotoGP podiums and repeated pole positions across his visits.

However, with his alleged physical issues, there could be value to be found in other racers.

Ogura is one that may offer some, as he has continued to go from strength to strength in recent races. To win, he may need the race to become a little chaotic and messy, but he has definitely proven himself as a legitimate podium contender in his maiden season.

Our prediction is that Márquez will likely win this race, with Ogura being a solid option in the each-way market , as we think a podium spot is likely.

A long shot is Marco Bezzecchi , as he won the 2025 British GP in somewhat chaotic circumstances. If the 2026 edition is similar, then there is a good chance he’ll be involved at the business end of this race.
