Giro d'Italia 2026: Stage 20 Betting Predictions

29/05/2026|Giovanni Angioni|Misc Tips & Predictions
Giro d'italia stage 20

Stage 20 of the 2026 Giro d'Italia will see riders race from Gemona del Friuli to Piancavallo in what is widely considered one of the last big chances to change the general classification before Rome.

This stage of the race will take place on Saturday, May 30, and is the penultimate stage of the Tour.

Quick Picks

  • Our pick: Vingegaard to win
  • Value bet: Pellizzari to win
  • Long shot: Rubio to win

Betting Preview

The stage is a long, mountain-heavy route that sees riders have to navigate around 200km, with around 3,750 metres of climbing, and a double ascent of Piancavallo at the end.

The stage starts with flatter roads, but it is not a true "rest day" opening because there are early climbs at Forgaria del Friuli and Clauzetto before the riders reach the final circuit.

The key feature is Piancavallo, climbed twice: a 14.5 km ascent averaging 7.8%, with the hardest part concentrated in the first 6 km.

The final climb is where the race should be decided. After the first ascent, there is a descent and a gentle run-in before the final push back up Piancavallo, which makes pacing and positioning crucial throughout the stage.

Betting Markets to Watch

Betting on Stage 20 should involve bettors looking at specialists, with the favourites being pure climbers and GC riders with strong high-mountain legs.

Jonas Vingegaard is going to be a likely strong favourite for this stage.

The stage suits a rider like him: a sustained high-mountain climber who can make a decisive move on a long, steep finish.

He has been solid in this year's 2026 Giro d'Italia so far, adding to his favourite status.

Giulio Pellizzari is another potential contender to win this stage.

His best asset is his climbing shape, and the Stage 20 profile is exactly the kind of test that rewards it: long ascent, steep early ramps, and enough total climbing to strip away weaker legs.

If you want alternatives, Einer Rubio and Afonso Eulálio look like the next-best for value.

Rubio is the more classic "climber value" pick because he profiles well for a long mountain finish, while Eulálio has performed well in mountain stages.

Our Prediction

You can check out our latest cycling outright markets for this race.

Our prediction is that Vingegaard is the most likely winner of Stage 20.

Our long shot is for Rubio to be a contender. If it becomes a tactical battle between the GC leaders, he has the ability to slip into contention when there are just a few kilometres remaining.
