US Presidential Election – Best Inauguration Performances

05/11/2024|SB Staff|Other Sports News

The 2024 US Presidential Election is less than a month away with America preparing to head to the polls and pick their next president.

The Election is obviously a big deal all over the world, with everyone eager to see who will reside in the White House for the next four years.

That’s why Sportsbet are giving punters the opportunity to wager on who they believe will be the next President, as well as numerous other markets such as head-to-head state betting.

When the dust settles after November 5, the eventual winner, as is tradition, will host a glamourous inauguration event that will feature some of the biggest names in popular music.

Throughout the years, every time a president has been elected, the stars have turned out to honour them in song.

Names such as Ray Charles, Fleetwood Mac and Aretha Franklin are among those who have delivered truly epic inauguration performances for former presidents.

Before the next batch of superstars join them as artists to have performed at a President’s inauguration, let’s take a look at some of the best presidential inauguration performances from throughout history.

Best Presidential Inauguration Performances

James Brown (1969)

Despite voting for, and supporting his opponent, The Godfather of Soul James Brown agreed to perform at Richard Nixon’s inauguration.

He didn’t just perform, he delivered one of the all-time great inauguration moments, bringing his trademark energy and showmanship to the stage, along with fellow crooners Tony Bennett and Connie Francis.

Ray Charles (1985)

Wind the clock back to 1985 and you’ll find the late, great Ray Charles performing at Ronald Regan’s second inauguration.

Despite both Frank Sinatra and the Beach Boys performing on the same night, it’s Charles’ now iconic version of the standard “America the Beautiful” that everyone remembers from that night.

“America the Beautiful” has been performed since at other inaugurations, but no one is yet to replicate the magic Ray Charles summoned that night with his all-time rendition.

Fleetwood Mac (1993)

Bill Clinton’s 1993 inauguration saw the return of the Mac. Fleetwood Mac that is. After Clinton consistently used their hit “Don’t Stop” throughout his campaign, he thought it would be fitting to get the band to perform it live after he secured the Presidency.

Anyone who knows anything about classic music beefs knows getting Fleetwood Mac together to perform is easier said than done.

Still, if anyone can do it, it’s probably the President, and he somehow convinced all five classic members to put their differences aside for one song and boy what a song it was.

Bruce Springsteen (2009)

Packing red, white and blue soaked anthems like “Born in the USA” the man they call the Boss seems like an absolute slam dunk of an inauguration performer.

Well, in 2009 newly elected President Barack Obama certainly thought so and tapped Springsteen to take part in his first inauguration concert.

While he didn’t perform “Born in the USA”, he did give a spin-tingling rendition of “The Rising”, backed by a gospel choir.

Aretha Franklin (2009)

Another entry from Obama’s inaugural inauguration, this was actually Aretha Franklin’s third performance at a Presidential Inauguration, having performed at both Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton’s big days.

Named as the greatest singer of all time by Rolling Stone, twice, Aretha Franklin rarely missed. Her performance of “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee’” was no exception, as she simply bought the house down.

The giant bow on her epic hat may as well have been a crown, as she proved in that moment why she was and always will be, the Queen of Soul.

US Presidential Election 2024 Odds
