Betting Preview
With $750,000 available in prize money, the 2026 Flight Stakes is a race that attracts plenty of attention, despite a pretty small field. That purse is healthy, though it still sits some way below Australia's richest horse races.
It is a Group 1 race that features some of the best three-year-old fillies competing at set weights over a distance of 1,600m.
Bangkok Hottie is arguably the most intriguing horse in the line-up. She is coming off back-to-back wins at Randwick, winning the Furious Stakes and the Tea Rose Stakes.
Those races were over 6 furlongs and 7 furlongs, respectively, which is something to keep in mind as this race is a step up in distance. They were both Group 2 races, too, so she’s also stepping up in class here.
The going at Randwick is said to be soft (at the time of acceptance on Tuesday), which could go against her. The last time she ran on this surface at Randwick, she finished 5/10. Her two recent wins were both on good ground.
Betting Markets to Watch
Having looked at Bangkok Hottie above, it’s clear that the ground and step-up in distance and class are being reflected in the odds being offered. She’s not the favourite, but could be interesting as a value pick.
The early favourites here are Striking Alibi and Global Goal. Striking Alibi was beaten by Bangkok Hottie in the two Stakes races by a small margin, but many have suggested that she is better over a longer distance, thus being reflected in the price being offered.
The extra 200m in this race could be the difference for her to get beyond her race rival.
Global Goal is another who has been beaten by Bangkok Hottie recently, having finished third in the Tea Rose Stakes.
Again, many have suggested she should appreciate the step up to 1,600 metres and could prove too tough a challenge for others to catch over this distance. She has also been consistent at Randwick, with her only two flat races here having seen her finish third.
Our Prediction
Check the latest horse racing betting odds at Sportsbet.
We think Global Goal is the most likely to win the race, with Bangkok Hottie our value pick. She’s not our favourite, as there are too many variables that she will need to navigate for the first time.
Our long shot is in Sumac. Her odds are extremely long so an each-way bet would be the value option.
We’ve highlighted her because although she needs to show vast improvement, she has the quality and an increased distance could be the difference, as could the soft going (having placed before).
Still, she’s better than the odds suggest, which is why she could be worth a long shot in this race. If you are new to each-way selections, our guide on how to bet on horses walks through how those bets work.
