The Memorial Tournament Betting Preview – Everything You Need to Know

The PGA TOUR welcomes its next Signature Event from May 29 to June 1 at the Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.

Memorial Tournament: At a Glance

In a bid to combat the riches on offer at the rival LIV Golf tour, the PGA TOUR initiated a new series of tournaments – their ‘Signature Events’ – with a prize pool of $20 million USD available at each.

And so the Memorial Tournament, the latest of them, has become one of the most prestigious non-majors in the calendar.

It’s hosted by the legendary Jack Nicklaus, who welcomes the action to his own course: the Muirfield Village Golf Club.

Memorial Tournament: Course Notes

Muirfield Village is a decent slog, measuring 7,560 yards for its Par 72. And in the spirit of its designer Nicklaus, it’s a genuine test of all-round ball striking.

The rough is typically left to grow tall and juicy, which places a premium on finding the fairway. Most players will play it safe by sheathing their driver and hitting woods and irons off the tee, which in turn makes their approach shots into the green on Par 4s that bit tougher.

Greens in regulation will be missed, so an ability to chip and scramble to make par will be vital. The last two editions of the Memorial Tournament have been won with scores of single digits under par – a rarity outside of the majors, and proof of how challenging Muirfield Village is all these years after it was constructed.

Memorial Tournament: Betting Favourites

Scottie Scheffler has won more golf tournaments in the past year than most players do in their entire careers. And, bad news for the rest of the Memorial Tournament field, he loves it at Muirfield Village.

He’s the defending champion this week, with two other top-three finishes to his name at the venue. Scheffler is the worthy betting favourite.

That market prominence is enhanced by the absence of Rory McIlroy, who has chosen not to play, and so the next most likely contenders include two-time major winner Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas and another player who loves it at Muirfield Village: Collin Morikawa.
