PGA Championship Predictions & Tips 2025

14/05/2025|SB Staff|Golf Tips & Predictions

The second golf major of the calendar, the PGA Championship, unfolds at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, this week from May 15-18.

PGA Championship 2025 Preview

This nomadic major can sometimes suffer from a lack of identity, but in 2025 at least we’ll have a high-class host course at which to watch the drama play out.

Quail Hollow normally hosts the Truist Championship, but has pedigree as a major venue – it hosted the 2017 PGA Championship – thanks to its sheer length, playing as it does to around 7,600 yards for its par 71.

That means that the longer hitters will likely have an advantage – particularly so given as there’s some rain in the forecast to help soften the course, which of course is something to consider in our PGA Championship bets.

Scottie Scheffler ($5.00) and Rory McIlroy ($5.50) make for obvious favourites in the betting, given that both have won already in 2025. McIlroy also boasts a fine record at Quail Hollow, having won the Truist Championship twice since 2021.

They lead the market at short prices, with Bryson DeChambeau ($8.00) considered the next most likely winner – and why not, given his prodigious length and major pedigree?

Another one worth a look in the outright winner betting market is Justin Thomas, the winner of the PGA Championship the last time it headed to Quail Hollow.

Given that he also won the RBC Heritage event at the end of April, Thomas has the converging trends that golf punters are often on the lookout for.

PGA Championship 2025 Best Bets

All four of those players mentioned above warrant respect this week, but with Thomas available at roughly four times the price of Scheffler and McIlroy, he perhaps represents the best value at $23.00.

Thomas’ performance at the Truist Championship last week, where he finished second thanks to some excellent tee-to-green play, suggests that another victory could well be on the horizon. Surely Quail Hollow, where he has won a major already, represents a likely destination for exactly that.

If you prefer a couple of long odds shots to cheer on, consider the chances of Patrick Cantlay ($41.00) and Min Woo Lee ($91.00).

Statistically, Cantlay has been one of the best ball-strikers on the PGA Tour since the start of March. His consistency at a tough Quail Hollow could prove very handy. If he sinks some putts, he could endanger the favourites.

And Min Woo Lee could well lead the Australian charge, with his prodigious length off the tee and craft around the greens. If Quail Hollow plays as tough as expected, solid chipping and scrambling will be vital.

Sportsbet.com.au are offering Group Betting this week, so how about a $15.75 double to root for?

Min Woo is 4.20 to beat Sungjae Im, Justin Rose, Patrick Reed and Wyndham Clark, while the classy Daniel Berger is priced at $3.75 to take down the out-of-form Tony Finau, the errant ball-striking of Sam Burns, the inexperienced David Puig and the inconsistent Robert MacIntyre.

Odds correct at 2:45pm AEST 14/5/25

PGA Championship Odds
