West Coast Eagles vs Richmond Tigers Prediction - Round 8 2026

01/05/2026|Josh Jenkins|AFL Tips & Predictions

In what presents as a rare winnable clash for both sides, West Coast and Richmond will do battle at Optus Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

On the surface, this looks like an absolute flop of a game between two of the least successful teams in recent memory as the 15th placed Eagles host the 18th-placed Tigers.

But this match will have implications for the potential wooden spoon, in what is viewed as a three-horse race between West Coast, Essendon and Richmond.

Amusingly, West Coast are presently ahead of Carlton on the ladder, but the Blues have quality across the park and will likely notch a few wins before it’s all said and done.

Importantly, it also could be one of the few winnable games left in the season for the Tigers, who are anchored to last place and yet to find a win in 2026.

At 0-7 and not even looking close, Richmond are at risk of having a completely winless campaign in 2026. With this in mind; we’ll be watching closely as these two compete for pride in the West.

The stakes are high in this one, but the quality of footy will likely be quite low.

West Coast Eagles vs Richmond Tigers Prediction and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

A wooden spoon deciding contest with Richmond’s cubs travelling to Perth to face West Coast who are hot off a 101-point hammering.

The Eagles certainly stunned us this season; by winning two matches already whilst Richmond have been poorer than expected - although certainly impacted by injury.

There won’t be too many games where both teams will arrive with an expectation of winning, which is why the game should be seminal viewing for footy fans.

Sam Lalor and Harley Reid add punch around the ball whilst the Tigers young small forwards have some talent.

Aerially, it’s the West Coast big boys who shine brightest and look to be the calling card for the future.

While the Eagles have home stage comfort, the Tigers have historically held the wood over them. We think Richmond's desperate hunt for their first win of 2026 ends here in a tight one.

Betting tip: Richmond Tigers by 7 points.

First Goal Scorer Prediction

With the Tigers needing to stamp their authority early, expect them to look for their big boy Tommy Lynch in the goal square.

Tom Lynch has been the focal point of the Richmond attack for years, and he’ll be hungry to exploit the inexperienced Eagles defence that has been leaking goals lately.

If the Tigers can win the early clearances, Tom Lynch is the leader of this forward line and the logical target to boot the opener and settle the nerves for the visitors.

Betting Tip: Tom Lynch.

Most Disposals Prediction

It’ll be great to see Jayden Short back in action for the Tigers, he’s the man who keeps the Tigers' pulse beating in the back half.

As the primary distributor in transition play, he’s going to see a mountain of work as Richmond gets it forward in what shapes as a competitive match.

Coming into this one with that new dad energy, we expect him to get plenty of involvements as he leads from the back by example.

Betting Tip: Jayden Short.
