Western Bulldogs vs Fremantle Prediction - Round 8 2026
29/04/2026|Josh Jenkins|AFL Tips & PredictionsThe Bulldogs have slid to 10th on the ladder after three straight losses. Can they stem the slide in this Round 8 clash with Fremantle at Marvel Stadium?
The injury-plagued Bulldogs entered last week’s clash with Sydney heavily undermanned and were beaten comprehensively 126-60.
Marcus Bontempelli was sensational despite playing under an injury cloud, posting 29 disposals, two goals and three goal assists. But as the Bulldogs have been made painfully aware of in recent years, one man doesn’t make a team.
A sickening fall saw Aaron Naughton stretchered off in the third term, but he has not yet been ruled out of Friday’s clash. Thankfully, scans cleared him of serious structural damage to his neck.
Meanwhile, the Dockers collected another four points with their 103-89 home win over Carlton; including another game-breaking performance from Shai Bolton.
Fremantle remains tied atop the table with Sydney and Hawthorn at 6-1.
These sides last met in a do-or-die clash at Marvel Stadium to close the 2025 home and away season, seeing Fremantle earn a finals berth with a 112-97 win.
The Dogs finished 9th and missed out on finals, but they seemed like a renewed outfit when they opened 2026 with a string of impressive scalps.
Is 2026 a new season for Footscray? Or are these Dogs up to the same old tricks?

Western Bulldogs vs Fremantle Dockers Prediction and Betting Tips
Head-to-Head Prediction
This was the unofficial wildcard play-in game before we officially bring in the real thing this season. And in that one, Freo shone and won themselves into a finals campaign. We expect them to board the plane, arrive at Marvel Stadium and do the job again.
The Dogs' defensive woes remain and grew to new levels last week as the Swans combined for a massive score.
Treacy, Voss and Amiss pose a huge threat to the Dogs defence, particularly when they’re getting clean service from the likes of Serong, Brayshaw and Young.
The Dogs need to hold the line, pinch a win and wait for returning troops like Tim English and Arty Jones, who remain chances to return this week despite recent concerns.
However, the Bulldogs' personnel problems have highlighted structural issues from 2025 that have not yet been rectified in 2026.
Head-to-head prediction: Fremantle Dockers by 24 points.
First Goal Scorer Prediction
Jye Amiss has found his radar and doesn't look like missing any time soon. He is the man to get Freo off to a start in this one.
He snagged three last week and five the week before and will come into this one full of confidence.
The boy from Busselton has emerged as a key contributor in this Freo lineup and we expect him to go from strength to strength as Freo make their run to the finals.
Betting tip: Jye Amiss.
Most Disposals Prediction
We like Marcus Bontempelli for most disposals. He’ll be coming into this clash hungry to reverse the Dogs slide down the ladder.
Bontempelli is still the best player in the league; just last week, he was clearly hampered by a knee injury but still managed 29 touches and two goals to boot.
His consistency is part of the furniture at this point; every involvement is laced with intent and trimmed with class.
We know that he’ll always compete on every play and have an impact on the result of the game. It’s hard to bet against the Bont.
Betting tip: Marcus Bontempelli.
