AFL Players to Watch - Round 20 2026

23/07/2026|Kate McCarthy|AFL Tips & Predictions

Round 20 of the AFL Season has arrived and as always, there is value to be found well beyond the head-to-head markets.

Hawthorn is all but set to decimate the Bombers, the Pies face the Crows in a vital match to book tickets to September and the North vs Saints clash at Marvel shapes as one of the most competitive matches of the round.

Whether you’re looking for a midfielder on a tear, a forward set to score goals, or a defence that’s set to be exploited, we have you covered.

For the inside lane on the best AFL bets, check out Kate's McCarty’s list of the best AFL bets and players to watch in Round 20 below.

Best AFL Players to Watch - Round 20

Jordan De Goey - Collingwood Magpies

De Goey has collected 25 or more disposals in eight of his last ten games. That is the kind of consistency you can build a betting strategy around.

Collingwood need a result in Adelaide and De Goey will need to be at his best to drag them over the line. When the stakes are high and the big-game temperament is required, he’s got a track record of performing.

The disposal line here looks like a gift at the current price.

Betting tip: Jordan De Goey 25+ disposals.

Michael Frederick - West Coast Eagles

West Coast has been struggling to contain high half-forwards over the past few weeks.

The evidence is right there in the recent matchups: Lohmann kicked four, Bontempelli kicked two and Keays kicked three against them.

That defensive corridor is open and Michael Frederick has been performing across the forward flank all season.

In three of his last four matches, he’s kicked two or more goals.

Until West Coast fix the problem, I see no reason to stop backing players who can score from that zone.

Betting tip: Michael Frederick 2+ goals.

Massimo D'Ambrosio - Hawthorn Hawks

D'Ambrosio had 27 disposals against Richmond last week in a game that the Hawks had well in hand by the time the third quarter started.

He was still going. That tells you something about how freely he finds the ball even when a match is already decided.

The Essendon matchup might actually be better. The Bombers concede the most disposals in the competition to opposition wingers.

D'Ambrosio runs into a structure that gives up exactly the kind of space he needs.

Massimo to contribute plenty against his former club.

Betting tip: Massimo D'Ambrosio 25+ disposals.

Dion Prestia - Richmond Tigers

Prestia returned from injury last week against Hawthorn and played 81% time on ground in his comeback game, collecting 25 disposals. For a first game back, that is a heavy workload, and it suggests Richmond are planning to lean on him.

I would expect his time on ground to hold at a similar level against the Dogs at Marvel. His disposal line at 22+ looks well within reach given how involved he was on return.

Betting tip: Dion Prestia 22+ disposals.

Colby McKercher - North Melbourne Kangaroos

McKercher has topped 25 disposals in three of his last four games. What makes him stand out in this market is his role: he takes kick-outs and attends centre bounces, giving him multiple ways to accumulate rather than relying on a single phase of the game.

In a match between North and the Saints that shapes as close, McKercher should see plenty of the ball regardless of how the result pans out.

Betting tip: Colby McKercher 25+ disposals.

AFL Tri-Bet Angle

North Melbourne vs St Kilda - Tri-Bet

These two sides are closely matched and there is genuine value in backing neither to blow the other away. The tri-bet on either team winning by 24 or fewer points is a good price for a contest that points toward a tight finish.

Betting tip: Either team to win by 24 or fewer points.
