North Melbourne vs Brisbane Lions Prediction - Round 5 2026

08/04/2026|Josh Jenkins|AFL Tips & Predictions

Gather Round is back and for the fourth year running, the AFL world descends upon South Australia for a festival of footy.

While the wine might be flowing in the Barossa Valley, the stakes are high for North Melbourne and Brisbane as they prepare to clash for an intriguing matchup at Barossa Park.

The Kangaroos are currently sitting inside the top six, a sentence that still feels a bit surreal to type in 2026.

Alastair Clarkson has his young squad up and about after back-to-back victories, including an emotional comeback against the Blues last week.

With their tails up and a growing sense of belief, the Arden Street faithful are starting to dream of more than just competitive losses.

Standing in their way are the back-to-back reigning premiers, the Brisbane Lions. After a shaky start to their title defence, the Lions looked to have found their mojo again with a clinical demolition of Collingwood.

Fagan’s men are beginning to roar, and with several key pillars set to return to the line-up, they’ll be looking to assert their dominance on neutral turf.

History, however, is a cruel mistress for the Kangaroos in the City of Churches. North Melbourne has lost each of its last 18 matches in South Australia, a hoodoo that has persisted for years.

Breaking that streak against the best team in the land is the ultimate test for this rising North outfit.

North Melbourne vs Brisbane Lions Prediction and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

The Roos are inside the top six, but here comes the ultimate test. They’re feeling themselves after recent wins, but now they need to travel to the Barossa Valley for a date with the champions.

The Kangas have the power around the ball to compete with the likes of the Ashcroft brothers, Neale, Berry and Dunkley, especially with the likely return of Lions skipper Hugh McCluggage.

Luke Davies-Uniacke has refined his craft, Harry Sheezel continues to be a freakish ball magnet, and we are all-in on George Wardlaw’s manic intensity.

Up forward, Nick Larkey and Cooper Trembath will get a few good looks against a Lions defence that has been under-manned recently.

However, the return of Harris Andrews will be a massive boost for Brisbane; his intercepting prowess usually spells trouble for developing forward lines.

While we want to see North keep this close, Brisbane are beginning to find their premiership groove and should simply be too classy.

They’ve looked dangerous lately, and with five of their last six matches going over the total match points line, expect a high-scoring affair.

By the way, four years in, is there any chance we can give the reigning champions a run at Adelaide Oval instead of out in the country air?

Betting tip: Brisbane Lions by 21 points.

First Goal Scorer Prediction

When the Lions need a spark, they usually look toward Charlie Cameron. Chucky has a history of turning it on in big-ticket events, and Gather Round is no exception.

With his lightning speed and ability to find space when the ball hits the deck, he’s a nightmare for a North Melbourne defence that is still finding its feet.

Expect the Lions to hunt him early to get the purple-and-gold crowd involved.

Betting tip: Charlie Cameron.

Most Disposals Prediction

Colby McKercher has been a revelation for the Roos this season. His ability to rack up touches and use his elite footy IQ to exit defensive 50 is central to North’s new-found transition game.

Even if the Lions dominate the scoreboard, McKercher is the type of player who will keep working and find Sherrin 25+ times regardless of the pressure.

A good chance at topping the disposals in this one.

Betting tip: Colby McKercher.
