The Giants are back in the picture and poised to make a run up the ladder.

They had to come from behind against the Tigers, inspired by a speech from their fallen warrior Callan Ward, and overturned a 28-point deficit at three-quarter time to secure a three-point win.

With it, they achieved back-to-back wins for the first time since round five. While they’d be relieved to get the win and avoid being added to the list of “teams who lost to Richmond in the year they weren’t supposed to win a game,” the Giants know they escaped by the skin of their teeth.

Despite being 7-5, they’re still searching for consistency and their best footy. This is challenging given that many of their stars have been unavailable for large portions of the year, but they now have a stretch on either side of the bye where they can set themselves up for a strong finish.

The Power is coming off the bye and running out of time to contend. The bye came at the right moment after four straight losses by an average of 55 points, but at 4-7, they have little room for error if they want to achieve anything significant in the second half of the season.

With their next three games against teams outside the top eight, Port can give themselves a chance to make a sneaky run if they’re good enough. Starting against the struggling Giants at a venue that the Giants once called a fortress but have faltered at recently in Canberra could open the door for Ken Hinkley and his team to start a run.

On the selection front, the Giants will be forced into a few changes. Callan Ward will miss the rest of the season after rupturing his ACL, and ruckman Kieran Briggs will also miss a significant portion of a month due to an ankle injury.

In positive injury news, however, standout small forward Brent Daniels is set to play his first game in two months after finally overcoming an abdominal injury. Adam Kingsley has no shortage of depth players eager for a chance in the senior team, with James Leake, Harry Rowston, and Connor Stone impressing in the VFL. The uncapped Nick Madden is also impressing and making a case for an AFL debut soon.

Port Adelaide is set to be strengthened by the returns of Kane Farrell and Josh Sinn after overcoming their respective knee and hip issues that have kept them sidelined. Darcy Byrne-Jones needs to complete concussion protocols after being concussed against the Dockers. Esava Ratugolea will also be tested and considered, should he recover from a hamstring issue.

For the latest team news, analysis, odds, and betting tips, check out our Giants vs Power prediction and preview below.

GWS Giants vs Port Adelaide Predicted Teams

GWS Giants Predicted Team List

B: Connor Idun, Sam Taylor, Leek Aleer

HB: Lachie Whitfield, Jack Buckley, Lachie Ash

C: Harry Himmelberg, Connor Stone, Josh Kelly

HF: Brent Daniels, Aaron Cadman, Darcy Jones

F: Callum Brown, Jesse Hogan, Toby Greene

Foll: Nick Madden, Toby Bedford, Tom Green

Int: Xavier O’Halloran, Joe Fonti, Jake Riccardi, Harvey Thomas, Cody Angove

Port Adelaide Predicted Team List

B: Miles Bergman, Aliir Aliir, Josh Sinn

HB: Connor Rozee, Brandon Zerk-Thatcher, Kane Farrell

C: Jase Burgoyne, Willem Drew, Christian Moraes

HF: Darcy Byrne-Jones, Mitch Georgiades, Travis Boak

F: Sam Powell-Pepper, Ollie Lord, Joe Richards

Foll: Dante Visentini, Zak Butters, Ollie Wines

Int: Jackson Mead, Jeremy Finlayson, Willie Rioli, Logan Evans, Ryan Burton

GWS Giants vs Port Adelaide Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

The Giants have won the last two games against the Power to bring the overall head-to-head record to eight wins apiece.

This will be the fourth time that these sides have met in the nation's capital, with the Giants holding a 2-1 lead at the ground. The one for the Power came back in 2014 - the Giants' third year in the competition.

The Giants are fifth in the competition when it comes to scoring from turnover, over the past five weeks whereas the Power is the second-worst in the competition in this metric. Which explains their scoring woes and inability to kick a meaningful score.

The Power have struggled to not only transition, but retail the ball over the past month of footy, and have leaked big scores while not being able to score much themselves.

Despite coming off the bye and being supposedly refreshed, Port is still ripe for the picking here we feel. So we’re tipping the Giants here to continue their run here.

Betting tip: Giants

First Goal Prediction

Giants skipper Toby Greene missed an opportunity to go enormous last time he played against the Power. He had 18 touches and finished with 1.5. Still good, but imagine what it could have been.

He’s in good form, so we’re looking for him to set the tone early with the first of the day. Just maybe pack your kicking boots this week Tobes.

Betting tip: Toby Greene

Most Disposals Prediction

Power champion Ollie Wines has been one of the Power midfielders to step up even though their season has not gone to plan. He’s averaged 26.7 disposals while being relied on to play multiple roles both inside, outside, and ahead of the ball.

We’re backing him to top the disposal count this week.

Betting tip: Ollie Wines 30+ disposals

GWS Giants vs Port Adelaide Power Match Details

Date: Saturday, June 7th

First Bounce: 7:35 PM, AEST

Location: Manuka Oval, Canberra

How to watch: Fox Footy/Kayo Sports
