Gold Coast Suns vs Essendon Bombers Prediction - Round 6 2026

15/04/2026|Josh Jenkins|AFL Tips & Predictions

AFL Round Six is here and Saturday's fixtures open with an afternoon clash on the beautiful Gold Coast.

The Gold Coast Suns host an Essendon Bombers outfit that is currently flying high after pulling off the major upset of Gather Round.

While the Suns have endured a disappointing fortnight, Essendon stunned the Dees in a gallant effort, leaving many to wonder if Brad Scott’s men have finally found their groove.

History, however, paints a difficult picture for the luckless Dons.

Essendon has lost each of its last 11 away matches, a stat that should have them feeling confident up on the Gold Coast.

Additionally, those looking for a high-scoring affair are in luck; each of the last five matches between Gold Coast and Essendon have gone OVER the total match points line.

Given Essendon’s defence so far this season, we have no reason to expect anything different.

Gold Coast will be looking to recalibrate their strategy after a sluggish start against Sydney, where they allowed the Swans to get forward and hit the scoreboard often in the opening term.

With both teams eyeing a crucial four points to cement their early-season standing, expect fireworks under the Queensland sun.

Gold Coast Suns vs Essendon Bombers Match Predictions and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

This is a classic "get-right" spot for the Suns.

While Essendon’s win over Melbourne was built on impressive uncontested disposal numbers and overwhelming possession, we have serious doubts about whether that method is sustainable against a hungry Suns midfield.

Gold Coast’s contested defence was awfully off the mark early against Sydney, but being back on home soil usually brings out the best in Damien Hardwick’s men.

Jarrod Witts will be eager to respond after being well beaten and benched last week, while the return of Matt Rowell to full fitness should allow Wil Powell to move back to his preferred roles.

If the Suns can tighten up their transition defence and rediscover their contested edge, they should really do a number on an Essendon side that historically struggles to travel.

We expect a clinical performance from the home side that eventually turns into a blowout. Gold Coast by a half ton could be on here.

Head-to-head prediction: Gold Coast Suns by 51 points.

First Goal Scorer Prediction

Ben King is a good chance to draw first blood against GWS and remains a primary target whenever soon as the Suns enter the forward 50.

The 202cm tall forward kicked 71 goals last year and is on track to rack up similar numbers in 2026.

With Christian Petracca back, the Suns will have plenty of avenues to feed Kingy with possession.

Expect Ben King and Petracca to connect early and open the Suns account.

  Betting tip: Ben King.

Most Disposals Prediction

Matt Rowell is finding form again after returning a fortnight ago against the Dees.

The creative and leadership burden will shift due to the absence of Noah Anderson, making Matt Rowell the man charged with distribution in attack.

He’ll be hunting the Sherrin in the Queensland heat against an Essendon midfield who are likely to be out of their depth.

Expect Rowell to take charge of this match and comfortably pass the 30 disposal mark.

Betting tip: Matt Rowell.
