Round 4 of the AFLW Season continues the indigenous round celebrations, while the competition has already taken a clear shape.

The top four sides are unbeaten. The bottom four haven't won a game. North Melbourne, Melbourne, Carlton and Sydney sit on 12 points, while West Coast, Essendon, Collingwood and St Kilda are yet to get off the donut.

Western Bulldogs vs Sydney Swans AFLW Prediction

Saturday, September 5, 12:35pm AEST - Mission Whitten Oval, Melbourne

The Bulldogs were found out in Launceston. Two wins to open the year had come without them cracking 50 either week and when North turned the screws they had no answer, losing by 47.

Sydney arrives unbeaten and barely inconvenienced. The Swans have now won three different ways, grinding one out in Adelaide, controlling Essendon and then holding St Kilda to 15 points in Coffs Harbour.

Nobody has scored heavily against these Swans and nobody looks likely to here. The Dogs will make it ugly, because that's the only game they know how to play; with Isabelle Pritchard and Jess Fitzgerald leading from the front in the absence of Dee Berry.

But Sydney have shown they can win ugly if need be.

St Kilda vs North Melbourne AFLW Prediction

Saturday, September 5, 1:05pm AEST - RSEA Park, Melbourne

Eighteenth hosts first and there is no clever angle here.

St Kilda have scored 15 points in their most recent outing and sit on 34.3 per cent for the season after three rounds. Georgia Patrikios keeps winning the football and keeps having nothing to show for it, which has been the story of the Saints' year.

North have won three from three by an average that makes the ladder look broken. Ash Riddell leads the competition with 36.3 disposals a game and Jasmine Garner is second at 31 and between them they simply take the football off you for four quarters.

Moorabbin is a proper home ground and the Saints will be up for it early. That tends to last about a quarter against this North Melbourne side.

Port Adelaide vs Gold Coast Suns AFLW Prediction

Saturday, September 5, 2:35pm AEST - Alberton Oval, Adelaide

Port have quietly put themselves in the eight. The four-point win over GWS wasn't pretty but it was earned and it followed a fortnight of mixed results.

Matilda Scholz remains the reason to like Port. The young ruck is athletic at the contest,  and she plays like an extra midfielder at ground level. One of the premier rucks in the competition alongside Hawthorn’s Lucy Wales and Freo’s Mim Strom.

Gold Coast are impossible to trust as they continue to find their feet. With a dismal Round 1 points scored of 1.8, followed by 10.9 and 8.9 – they’re all over the shop and won’t be a safe pick until they find some consistency.  

Alberton Oval and the advantage at the ruck should settle it.

Head-to-head prediction: Port Adelaide.

Brisbane Lions vs GWS Giants AFLW Prediction

Saturday, September 5, 6:35pm AEST - Brighton Homes Arena, Ipswich

Two sides on one win, separated by percentage and not much else.

Brisbane were dismantled by Melbourne, conceding 89 at Casey Fields, which is the sort of afternoon that either breaks a season or galvanises it. The Lions have too much finals pedigree to sit at 12th for long.

Former Rugby Union player Courtney Hodder is an out and out gun, she doesn't need the football to influence a game. She chases, tackles and forces errors until somebody cracks and Dakota Davidson has reaped the rewards, nabbing five goals to start the season.

GWS have beaten West Coast and lost their other two, including by four in Canberra. They compete, then run out of ways to score.

Saturday night in Ipswich, with Brisbane ready to take out some frustration. We’ll take the Lioness’s.

Richmond Tigers vs Fremantle AFLW Prediction

Sunday, September 6, 12:30pm AEST - Ikon Park, Melbourne

Mon Conti is the difference. She leads the competition for inside 50s, averages 27 disposals and turns defence into attack faster than anyone in the league. Every coach in the competition knows what she's going to do. Almost none have figured out the solution.

Fremantle are the week-to-week puzzle. Held to 20 points by Port, then excellent against Collingwood, then beaten by six at home by Carlton in a game that could’ve gone either way.

Kiara Bowers is the reason to hesitate, averaging 25.7 disposals and rarely wasting one and Mim Strom is elite at the ruck.

Richmond at home, just.

Head-to-head prediction: Richmond Tigers.

Hawthorn Hawks vs Adelaide Crows AFLW Prediction

Sunday, September 6, 1:05pm AEST - Kennedy Community Centre, Dingley Village

The Hawks have won two on the trot and both were on the road, in South Australia and then Victoria Park, where they beat Collingwood by 28. Now they get their new home ground.

Aine McDonagh leads the competition in scoring by a long shot, with nine goals over the first three matches. Jenna Richardson is still elite in 2026 too, taking more marks than anyone in the league.

That combination of a tall marking forward line and a defence that intercepts is why Hawthorn look like a top four side rather than a hopeful one.

Adelaide finally got on the board against West Coast at Unley, winning by 17. Ebony Marinoff was enormous, as she always is but the Crows still don't have enough support around her when the contest gets physical.

The Crows won’t be able to defend the calibre of Hawthorn’s talls.

Head-to-head prediction: Hawthorn Hawks.

Geelong Cats vs Essendon Bombers AFLW Prediction

Sunday, September 6, 2:35pm AEST - GMHBA Stadium, Geelong

Geelong keep finding ways. Their seven-point win on the Gold Coast was their second on the trot as the Cats continue chasing a maiden AFLW premiership.

Buoyed by the confidence of Jacqueline Parry, who sits equal 2nd on goals scored, with seven majors in the opening three rounds.

Meanwhile, Essendon are 0-3 in their first AFLW season but not for a lack of effort.

They’ve taken it down to the wire in every contest this season, with a heartbreaking five-point loss to Richmond their most recent result.

Bombers follower Madison Prespakis is averaging 31.3 disposals in a winless team. Meanwhile, her sister Georgie Prespakis has evolved into a complete on-baller herself, averaging 29.7 disposals - one of the most effective mids for the Cats. 

It’ll be epic to watch the Prespakises? Prespakii? Not sure of the plural here, but we’re keen to see them go head to head in a family affair at Kardinia Park.

We reckon little sister will pick up bragging rights in this one.

Carlton Blues vs Collingwood Magpies AFLW Prediction

Sunday, September 6, 3:05pm AEST - Ikon Park, Melbourne

Carlton answered the only question anyone had about them. Three wins from three, and the third came in Perth against Fremantle by six points, which is the trip that had been keeping the sceptics warm.

Abbie McKay and Mimi Hill are averaging 26 disposals apiece through the middle and Darcy Vescio still knows where the goals are. The Blues are third and they've earned it.

Collingwood are 0-3 and the numbers are grim. They've conceded 96 points in a fortnight, they can't score, and the 54-26 loss to Hawthorn at Victoria Park was the third straight week where execution let them down.

Second game of the double-header, Ikon Park full, Blues rolling. This has the makings of a long afternoon in black and white.

Head-to-head prediction: Carlton Blues.

West Coast Eagles vs Melbourne Demons AFLW Prediction

Sunday, September 6, 5:05pm AEST - Mineral Resources Park, Perth

Melbourne put 89 on Brisbane at Casey Fields, the biggest score of Round 3, and they've now won three from three by a combined margin that only North can better.

Kate Hore remains the hardest forward in the competition to contain and Olivia Purcell is averaging 33.3 disposals through the middle, second only to Ash Riddell at the Roos.

West Coast are winless but improving. The 17-point loss in Adelaide was their most competitive showing and Ella Roberts is a player to watch, versatile enough to play anywhere and still getting better. Amy Franklin has kicked five goals in a struggling attack.

The Dees will prove too classy in this one.

Head-to-head prediction: Melbourne Demons.
