AFL Players to Watch - Round 6 2026

15/04/2026|Kate McCarthy|AFL Tips & Predictions

What a weekend of footy in Adelaide last week, big Maxy Gawn came through with our ATGS prediction and Oscar Allen slotted three to make it a successful start for Kate’s Bolters.

We’ve officially left the Gather Round festivities behind, but the drama in season 2026 is only just beginning to heat up.

I’ve been scouring the stats and watching the replays to find where the real value lies for punters as we head into Round 6.

From arch rivals clashing, to teams that just can't seem to get out of their own way, there are some massive narratives building this week.

Whether you're looking for a ball-magnet in the midfield or a spearhead ready to exploit a shaky defence, I've got you covered.

For the inside lane on players to watch in the AFL, check out expert Round 6 analysis by Kate McCarthy below.

AFL Betting Tips & Players to Watch in Round 6

Mitch Lewis - Hawthorn Hawks

If you're looking to see some goals scored this week, look no further than the Hawks taking on Port Adelaide.

The stats for Port’s defence are a bit of a horror show right now; they rank 18th in the league for goals conceded against Key Forwards and 16th against general forwards.

With Mabior Chol sidelined due to a hamstring injury, the door is wide open for Mitch Lewis to hit the scoreboard.

Lewis has been building nicely over the last couple of weeks, finding his range and frequently finding points.

While Jack Gunston is always reliable, Lewis offers much better value as the primary target in a Hawthorn side that should get plenty of looks.

Betting tip: Mitch Lewis 3+ goals.

Bailey Smith - Geelong Cats

You simply cannot discuss the Geelong vs. Western Bulldogs clash without talking about the man of the hour, Bailey Smith. Facing your old mob is always a recipe for a massive performance and Bazlenka has been in fine form lately.

He’s been finding the leather with ease, and I expect him to flex his muscles against his former teammates at Kardinia.

Smith racked up 33 disposals in this exact fixture last season and given he’s coming off a gun 40-disposal performance against the Crows recently.

He’ll be involved plenty in this one.

Betting tip: Bailey Smith 33+ disposals.

Carlton’s First Quarter Specialists

If there is one thing Carlton fans can rely on, it’s that their team is consistent at being inconsistent.

The Blues have developed a painful habit over the last 12 months leading at quarter time and then proceeding to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

We saw it again last week against the Crows; they came out like a house on fire, kicking seven goals in the opening term, only to fall away when the pressure mounted.

Facing their arch-rivals Collingwood this week, the "Lead at QTR Time / Lose Match" market looks like incredible value.

Betting tip: Carlton to lead at Quarter Time and Lose.

Luke Davies-Uniacke - North Melbourne

Keep a close eye on the North Melbourne midfield as they prepare to face Richmond.

The Tigers are currently leaking disposals, ranking 16th in the league for possessions conceded to opposition midfielders.

While you could take your pick of the Roos' mids, I love LDU for this matchup. He has a phenomenal record against Richmond; over his last five games against the Tigers, he’s averaged a massive 33.2 disposals.

Don't forget he put up a casual 40 touches against them in Round 23 last year. I expect North to control this game from the middle, with LDU leading the charge.

Betting tip: Luke Davies-Uniacke 30+ disposals.
