DETAIN (4) opened this campaign last start with a third, beaten 1.75 lengths, over 1609m at Santa Anita Turf. Ideally placed to score. MAAZ (8) was last at the races when he finished seventh over 1811m in the G1 Hollywood Derby at this track (Turf) on November 29. One of the genuine hopes in the race. TEMPUS VOLAT (10) did little and finished 12 lengths from the winner in 11th over 1609m at Santa Anita Turf last start, a less impressive effort than his seventh at Santa Anita Turf the run before. Going up a level this time but he cannot be taken lightly.
