At the time of writing (Wednesday) the track is rated a soft 5 but with fine weather forecast an upgrade is expected. SMITHY made good ground from the back at huge odds over 1220m when having his first try on turf. The rise to 1400m looks ideal on that effort and he can't be taken lightly this time. The well bred TIMMIE LAD showed glimpses of ability in his debut prep and got closer in the latest of two lead-in trials. TIMELY NEEDS was sound when placing fresh and will only be improved. SHINES DISCREETLY hasn't been far away in either local outing and can improve into minors at least.
