Eduardo Chapolin vs Charles Johnson: Jose Ochoa Withdraws From UFC 330

According to reports that surfaced on the Wednesday of fight week, Jose Ochoa withdrew from his scheduled flyweight clash with Charles Johnson because of an injury. 

The bout had been slated for the main card, so losing it so close to the bell was a real headache for matchmakers.

The change was confirmed on the official event page, with Johnson himself flagging the news on social media before the promotion moved to fill the gap. 

Rather than scrap the fight, the UFC brought in Eduardo Chapolin to face Johnson, though the pairing now sits on the preliminary card instead.

To keep the main card full, the lightweight bout between Jalin Turner and Kaue Fernandes was promoted up.

Turner brings a notable height and reach advantage into that one, while Fernandes rides momentum from three straight wins, so the reshuffle arguably strengthened the televised portion of the evening.

So who is the man stepping in on such short notice against Charles Johnson? Eduardo Henrique, known to fans as Chapolin, is a 30-year-old Brazilian flyweight who spent years grinding through the domestic scene before his rise gathered pace.

Between 2015 and 2022 he built a record of ten wins and a single loss across Brazil, then signed with the LFA promotion and eventually captured its flyweight title.

A former champion with real pedigree, he also earned a spot on the 33rd season of The Ultimate Fighter, where he was submitted in his opening bout by Joseph Morales, the man who went on to win the flyweight tournament.

Chapolin returned to the LFA and defended his belt for a second time, stopping Devon Lozej with a first-round knockout.

That performance won him a place on last year's Dana White's Contender Series, but a unanimous decision victory over An Tuan Ho apparently was not enough to convince Dana White to hand him a contract, which makes this UFC bow all the sweeter.

His opponent is no soft touch. Charles Johnson, also a former LFA flyweight titleholder, has fought in the UFC since 2022 and endured a rocky 2-4 start before a decision win over the previously unbeaten Azat Maksum in 2024 sparked a four-fight run.

All four of those wins landed in 2024, and "InnerG" has since alternated results against the division's better names. 

He was submitted by Asu Almabayev at UFC Baku less than two months ago, so he too is on a quick turnaround and eager to reset.

Provided nobody stumbles at Friday's weigh-in, UFC 330 will go ahead with all 12 fights as planned, and Chapolin will finally make the walk on the Philadelphia prelims.

For him, the stakes are simple and steep: a win could turn a rushed short-notice call into a lasting roster spot, while the scale remains the last hurdle before the card is locked for good.
