UFC Fight Night Tips: Yan vs Dvalishvili

09/03/2023|SB Staff| UFC Tips & Predictions

UFC 285 is all wrapped up & Jon Jones is back! The undisputed GOAT made quick work of Cyril Gane, submitting him in the first round in what was an underwhelming performance by the Frenchman.

Now that Jones has his crown, it’s time to turn our attention to the next fight night, Yan vs Dvalishvili.

This is going to be one spicy fight. We’ve got the Russian Petr Yan taking on the Georgian Merab Dvalishvili. Geopolitical issues aside, Dvalishvili is the main training partner of Yan’s rival, current Bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling.

Yan & Sterling’s rivalry goes back to UFC 259 where Petr Yan lost his belt to Sterling after he was disqualified due to an illegal knee. This move saw Sterling unable to continue the fight and he won the belt as a result. Some social media trolling and a war of words later, the two met at UFC 273 and Sterling silenced his critics & Yan by winning via decision.

It’s unclear whether this bad blood will spill over to Yan vs Dvalishvili, but even if it doesn’t the style of both fighters will guarantee a hell of a main event.

We’ve had a look at the card and put together out top UFC tips throughout the event. Check them out below and remember to gamble responsibly.

Said Nurmagomedov vs Jonathan Martinez

Both Nurmagomedov & Martinez will be entering this bantamweight bout off four fight win streaks, but only one will be walking away with five in a row.

Both guys are up-and-comers, and a win here should secure them a place in the rankings.

Nurmagomedov is fighting out of Dagestan and unsurprisingly has a strong wrestling background, while the American, Martinez is considered more of a striker, with eight of his seventeen wins coming from a knockout.

Style wise, Nurmagomedov has the edge here. His wrestling background should give him enough to get over the line via decision.

Tip: Said Nurmagomedov Win via Decision

Ricardo Ramos vs Austin Lingo

Whatever you do, don’t miss this fight. Both these guys aren’t afraid to play offense and are looking to make a statement so expect an early finish and a potential fight of the night.

Ricardo Ramos won his last fight in spectacular fashion, knocking out Danny Chavez with a spinning back elbow in round one. He’ll be meeting Austin “Lights Out” Lingo. The nickname “Lights Out” is appropriate, with six of his nine wins coming in the first round.

Lingo is going to have a bit of ring rust as he hasn’t fought since August 2021 due to personal reasons. His skillset is also limited and unless he can drop a big bomb in the first, Ramos should be able to utilise his grappling and get the win via submission.

Tip: Ricardo Ramos to Win via Submission

Nikita Krylov vs Ryan Spann

We’re blessed with the (re)matchup of Nikita Krylov & Ryan Spann. The light heavyweights were due to headline a UFC Fight Night a fortnight ago, but Krylov pulled out at the last minute due to illness.

We’re going to make the same prediction we made previously here. These two will come out swinging and this fight will finish early.

Tip: Fight to Finish in Round 1

Alexander Volkov vs Alexandr Romanov

It’s a battle of the Alexanders in the co-main event as Alexander “Drago” Volkov meets Alexandr “King Kong” Romanov.

Volkov is entering this fight after a first round KO against Jairzinho Rozenstruik, in what would be up there with one of the greatest performances in his career. Romanov is returning to the octagon after suffering the first loss in his 17-fight career at UFC 278 via decision against Marcin Tybura.

Despite being only 2 years older, Volkov has had twenty-eight more professional fights in his MMA career. You can’t discount that kind of experience, and combined with Volkov’s knockout power, it’s going to be a night to forget for Alexandr Romanov.

Tip: Alexander Volkov to Win via KO

Petr Yan vs Merab Dvalishvili

Finally, we get to the main event of the evening. Petr “No Mercy” Yan takes on Merab “The Machine” Dvalishvili in a 5-round bout. Yan will be looking to get back in the winner’s circle after a tough pair of losses to Aljamain Sterling & Suga Sean O’Malley, while Dvalishvili will be looking to claim the scalp of a former champion and prove he can contend for the championship.

This will be the first 5-round fight of Dvalishvili’s career and we’re expecting that to be a huge factor in this fight. Yan knows the championship rounds well. He’s won two of his last five fights in the fifth round, one coming via decision and one being a TKO finish with a minute and a half left.

Both fighters have won most of their bouts via decision so they’re not huge finishers, so Yan will be looking to capitalise in the 4th and 5th rounds and get the finish via KO.

Tip: Petr Yan to Win via KO
