A huge main event in New Jersey saw Aljamian Sterling defend his Bantamweight title against former champion Henry Cejudo who returned to the Octagon after a 3-year absence. It was a close affair, with Sterling getting over the line in a split decision victory.

The UFC now heads to Charlotte for another electric Fight Night, headlined by big men Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Jailton Almeida.

To kick off the main event we’ve got the veteran Tim Means taking on another veteran in Alex Morono. Both of these guys have over 15 years of UFC experience between them and will be looking to put it all on show this Sunday.

These guys love to fight, and they love to put on a show. This is a possible Fight of the Night contender and we’re not expecting it to go the distance.

Tip: Fight to NOT go the distance

Daniel Rodriguez vs Ian Machado Garry

Second up on the main card is Ian “The Future” Garry facing off against Daniel “D-Rod” Rodriguez. Garry is a highly touted prospect in the UFC and is coming into this fight at 11 wins and 0 losses.

His opponent D-Rod has the experience and will be the biggest challenge of young Ian Garry’s career. He’s a brawler that hits well and hits hard. Unfortunately, D-Rod hasn’t looked like the same fighter since he injured his hand late in 2021 and sat out for over a year.

Ultimately, we’re expecting D-Rod to get it done. This will be Garry’s toughest battle yet and he hasn’t shown enough in his first 3 fights to warrant a victory.

Tip: Daniel Rodriguez to Win

Anthony Smith vs Johnny Walker

Next up is the Lionheart Anthony Smith taking on Johnny Walker in the co-main event of the evening. Anthony Smith is a true UFC veteran, with a 36-17 record and an extensive resume.

Johnny Walker was a highly rated prospect with an exciting fighting style that many believed would see him soar to the top of the light heavyweight rankings. However, 4 losses in his last 7 fights has seen him unable to meet the high expectations heaped on him. With 2 wins in a row, he’s looking to record a win against the higher ranked Anthony Smith and continue his campaign towards Light Heavyweight glory.

Walker has earned all of his UFC victories in the 1st round due to his explosive style and Smith (who’s called Lionheart for a reason) will know what to expect come Sunday and he won’t back down. Both aren’t strong wrestlers so this one should be a stand-up battle.

While Smith is the more technical striker, Walker should have regained some confidence off the back of his last 2 wins and we’re expecting him to get the Rd 1 KO finish.

Tip: Johnny Walker to Win via KO in the 1st Round

Jairzinho Rozenstruik vs Jailton Almeida

It’s the battle of the big’s as Suriname native Jairzinho Rozenstruik welcomes Jailton Almeida to the Octagon. Rozenstruik is 13-4 and is coming off a RD 1 KO win against Chris Daukaus in December last year which saw him break a 2-fight losing streak. While he has 4 losses, they’ve been at the hands of Francis Ngannou, Ciryl Gane, Curtis Blades and Alexander Volkov.

Jailton Almeida is 18-2 in his MMA career, and 4-0 with the UFC (his last loss was in 2018).

There’s a conflict of styles here which makes for an interesting fight. Rozenstruik is the knockout artist with 12 of his 13 wins coming from KO and Almeida is more well-rounded, with 7 KO wins and 11 by submission. Almeida will look to take the fight to the ground early and utilise his BJJ black belt while Rozenstruik will aim to stay on his feet and use his kickboxing.

Ultimately Almeida is expected to win here and for good reason. His grappling is far superior and once he can take Rozenstruik down its game over basically. However, anything can happen in the fight game and Almeida is entering the octagon against a 118kg heavyweight, so one punch from Rozenstruik could change everything.

Tip: Jailton Almeida to Win via Submission
