Sabalenka Owns This Round

Nine hard-court major quarter-finals, nine wins, and she's never dropped a set at this stage of the US Open. Since losing the 2023 semi-final to Coco Gauff she hasn't lost a match here after taking the first set.

This year's run has been straight sets throughout, though the fourth round wasn't tidy: Taylor Townsend broke her three times in her first four service games before Sabalenka converted seven break points of her own to win 6-4 6-3.

The wider season reads 44-8, 31-3 on outdoor hard courts. She lost the Australian Open final to Elena Rybakina, then beat Noskova 6-3 6-4 in the Indian Wells semi-final with eight aces and a 73 percent first-serve win rate, and beat Rybakina in the final for good measure.

The ranking is the subplot. Rybakina can take No. 1 this fortnight, and a title defence is Sabalenka's cleanest answer. With the ranking race this open, it is worth keeping an eye on the outright tennis odds as the title defence unfolds.

Noskova Keeps Making It Hard for Herself

The Czech No. 1 beat Marta Kostyuk 7-5 5-7 6-4 in the fourth round, but she served for the match in the second set and let it go. Same story against Ann Li in round three, a 6-2 6-7(6) 6-2 win that should have been two sets.

She's converting break points at a high rate, six of nine against Kostyuk, and winning more than 60 percent of first-serve points every match, but she has 26 double faults for the tournament and the closing-out problem is now a pattern.

She also has a record worth respecting. She hasn't lost a Grand Slam match this year after winning the first set, she's the Wimbledon champion, and her two losses to Sabalenka include a 2023 Adelaide final that went to a second-set tiebreak.

Set Betting Is the Interesting Line

Match betting is the pick. The alternative is Sabalenka in straight sets, which fits her quarter-final record and the Indian Wells scoreline, but Noskova's last two matches suggest a first set that stays tight.

Set-one correct-score lines around 6-4 and 7-5 for Sabalenka carry the logic of both players' form. Games markets lean over, because Noskova's matches have run long and Sabalenka needed seven breaks to put away Townsend.
