Novak Djokovic vs Corentin Moutet Betting Tips: Will This Be Djokovic’s Day?

Despite a slow start to his clay court season, Novak Djokovic bounced back to form at the Geneva Open – and continued in that vein in his opening round win at the French Open.

Can he land a 25th grand slam title at Roland Garros? Standing in his way in the second round on Thursday (19:00 pm AEST) is Corentin Moutet.

Novak Djokovic: French Open So Far

There’s little doubt that clay isn’t Djokovic’s favourite surface. But seven French Open finals since 2012 suggests the Serbian is still far greater than the mere mortal at Roland Garros.

And he showed it in the first round this year, dispatching Mackenzie McDonald 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 in under two hours.

Corentin Moutet: French Open So Far

An experienced 26-year-old, if there is such a thing, this is Corentin Moutet’s eighth French Open campaign.

The Frenchman reached the fourth round on home soil last year, and went one step closer to emulating that in a straight sets victory over Clement Tabur in his opening encounter.

Novak Djokovic vs Corentin Moutet: Head-to-Head

The Djokovic vs Moutet fixture has happened twice before: the Serbian winning both.

The first took place as long ago as 2019, but the latter unfolded roughly a year ago – Djokovic running out a comfy 6-3, 6-1 victor at the 2024 Italian Open on clay.

Novak Djokovic vs Corentin Moutet Betting Odds

This match should be plain sailing for Djokovic, as far as the betting odds are concerned, with the Serbian installed as the red hot $1.05 favourite.

Moutet backers can avail themselves of odds of $9.50.

Novak Djokovic vs Corentin Moutet Betting Picks

Moutet, a skilful left hander, has the ability to make life awkward for even top-ranked opponents.

But if he serves as poorly as he did against Tabur again against Djokovic, the Serbian will make light work of him.

Moutet landed just 50% of first serves in and won just 56% of second service points, which confirms how much trouble he could find himself in against the sixth seed. Tabur, the world number 280, fashioned ten break points for himself – suggesting that the match could have been much closer than the scoreline suggests.

The Frenchman also made 37 unforced errors, whereas Djokovic – against a superior opponent – only yielded to 20 in his opening round match.

Djokovic was roughly the same odds to beat Mackenzie as he is to down Moutet, so the ease with which he prevailed in the first round perhaps offers clues to this second round game.

The Serb cleared the -8.5 handicap line in round one, and even cleared the -7.5 line in a best-of-three set match against Moutet last year. So the -8.5 line, at $2.15, looks like the best play here.
