She’ll be aiming to keep the momentum going ahead of the French Open when taking on Jessica Pegula in the quarter-finals on Wednesday, May 13 (9pm AEST).
Quick Picks
Our pick: Swiatek to win
Value bet: Swiatek 2-1 in set betting
Long shot: Pegula to win
Betting Preview
Entering the tournament, Swiatek had a record of 97-16 in her career on clay. She’s now on 100, having defeated Naomi Osaka in the Round of 16.
The Polish star’s tournament has arguably gone the way many would have expected, given her recent form on the court.
While she needed three sets to get past Catherine McNally in the Round of 64, her tennis has improved, and she’s made light work of her opponents.
Swiatek defeated Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto with ease, winning 6-1, 6-0 in the Round of 32 before edging Osaka 6-2, 6-1.
Now, another American stands in her way of a semi-final appearance, in which either Elina Svitolina or Elena Rybakina will await them.
Pegula is doing double-time in Rome as she’s also playing in the doubles competition. Still, that appears to have helped her keep momentum and play some top tennis.
She’s yet to drop a set in her three matches so far, beating Zeynep Sönmez (6-4, 6-0), Rebeka Masarova (6-0, 6-0), and Anastasia Potapova (7-6 (8-6), 6-2).
Her record on clay over the last 52 weeks is exceptional, at 12-3, while she is 53-27 on clay across her career on the main tour.
Betting Markets to Watch
When looking at the betting markets, Swiatek is considered the favourite in the moneyline. Indeed, she has now won 24 of her last 26 WTA main draw matches at Rome.
However, some may feel that there’s value in Pegula to win, based on Swiatek’s inconsistent form and the American’s strong play.
Alternative value may be possible to find in player props. The ‘Iga Swiatek 2-1’ market in the set betting category offers good value based on the reasons I’ve noted above.
Although Swiatek has only dropped one set so far, Pegula hasn’t and has coasted through herself, despite playing in doubles competition as well.
Our Prediction
You can check out the latest Jessica Pegula vs Iga Swiatek betting odds at Sportsbet.
Our prediction is for Swiatek to be the likely winner.
As we suggested above, we think there’s long shot value in Pegula being the victor, though. She’s strong on clay, and Swiatek has shown inconsistencies in recent events.
One too many mistakes in her game on Wednesday are likely to be punished by the American.
