Villarreal vs Napoli Prediction and Betting Tips

Napoli land in Spain without Frank Anguissa, with Scott McTominay only just back from a minor heart procedure, and with two more players lost to injury during the international break.
Villarreal have their own worries. Tajon Buchanan came back from Canada duty with a muscle injury and missed Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Real Madrid. Both clubs lost on Matchday 1, so somebody leaves the Estadio de la Cerámica with a real problem.
Quick Picks
Our Pick: Both teams to score: Yes
Alternative Pick: Second half to be the highest scoring half

Villarreal Can Score, They Just Can't Stop Anyone
Iñigo Pérez's side haven't kept a clean sheet in any of their nine games this season, and all three of their home league matches have had both teams on the scoresheet. They even scored twice at Dortmund on Matchday 1 and still lost 3-2.
The bigger issue is Europe itself. Villarreal are 12 Champions League games without a win, and they haven't scored a first-half goal in their last seven Champions League games. Slow starts, open second halves: that's the pattern.

- Form (last five, latest first): Villarreal L-W-W-L-L, Napoli W-D-W-L-L
Napoli's Long Wait for an Away Win in Europe
Massimiliano Allegri's side beat Frosinone 3-0 on Saturday, so the attack is ticking along at home. On the road in this competition it's a different story: Napoli are winless in their last six Champions League away games and have won only one of their last nine in Spain.
Their Matchday 1 defeat to Arsenal was worse than the 1-0 scoreline suggests. Arsenal created more than four expected goals that night and Napoli barely got near the box.
The head-to-head is level. Napoli won both group games 2-0 in 2011-12, and Villarreal knocked them out of the Europa League in 2016. Napoli vs Villarreal has history, but nothing that points clearly either way.

Villarreal vs Napoli Prediction
We're on both teams to score. Villarreal leak goals at a rate that makes a Napoli goal very likely, and their own home matches have been open all season.
Napoli are also missing Anguissa's legs in midfield and Alessandro Buongiorno at the back, which should leave room for the hosts to get at them.
The second half angle comes from that slow-start habit. If Villarreal stay blank before the break again, the goals land late.
The risk is a cagey 1-0 from two sides desperate not to lose. We don't think either defence is good enough to make that happen.
