Portugal have struggled on their travels since EURO 2024, tasting defeat in Denmark and drawing in Croatia and Scotland.

Thankfully for Roberto Martinez, their home form has been much better – winning four on the spin, including a 5-2 thrashing of Denmark in the second leg of their Nations League quarter final… but how much will that count for in Munich?

Tactics and Lineups

This is a functional and efficient German side under Julian Nagelsmann, who will set his team up in a nominal 4-3-3 shape; albeit one that will morph with and without the ball.

Jamal Musiala is the kingpin in a side that otherwise surprisingly lacks star power, although the central defensive partnership of Antonio Rudiger and Jonathan Tah is as secure as they come.

The lack of a natural goalscorer in Germany has seen Tim Kleindienst, the Borussia Monchengladbach striker, called up for international duty for the first time at 29.

Portugal will also adopt a 4-3-3 system, with Cristiano Ronaldo potentially starting through the middle.
