La Liga winners predictions

With the Spanish La Liga soccer season about to get underway, now is a perfect time to take a look at who the likely winners of the 2026/27 campaign will be.

Powerhouses Barcelona and Real Madrid will naturally top the list, but is it going to be as straightforward for those two clubs?

There have been plenty of changes at both clubs that could have an impact on the title race, while it’s never wise to count out Atletico Madrid if things go their way…

Quick Picks

Our pick: Real Madrid to win

Value bet: Real Madrid

Long shot: Atletico Madrid

Betting Preview

Barcelona managed to capture the 2025/26 La Liga title last season, winning the league by eight points.

Hansi Flick’s side managed to take advantage of what turned out to be a poor season for Real Madrid, with their El Clasico rivals struggling.

Now Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso had started the season as Real Madrid boss after an impressive stint at Bayer Leverkusen. But he was shortly out of the door at the Bernabeu after dressing room unrest and a string of poor results.

Alvaro Arbeloa took over, but couldn’t hold on to the job as he left the club once the campaign came to an end.

However, his replacement is a major reason why Real Madrid could win the title , even though Barca remain favourites. Jose Mourinho was brought back to the club for his second spell, and he’s attracted a number of star players to join him this summer.

Marc Cucurella and Yan Diomande are the big-money signings, while the club has also spent on Denzel Dumfries. Ibrahima Konate and Bernardo Silva, meanwhile, joined on a free, while Carlos Espi arrived from Levante as a young talent with a bright future.

Barcelona might have made signings themselves, but have also lost key players. Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi have both arrived, with talk about a move for Rodri gathering pace.

However, they’ve lost Robert Lewandowski and Ronald Araujo, and have seen Joao Cancelo and Marcus Rashford return to their parent clubs (although Cancelo may still return).

Still, this hasn’t seen their price move from the short odds they’ve been handed at the start of the season.

Betting Markets to Watch

Outside of these two clubs, Atletico Madrid are considered the most likely to challenge, albeit at much longer odds.

Diego Simeone’s side are typically there or thereabouts when it comes to being in the top three, but they don’t often have as much steam to compete for the entirety of the season.

Julian Alvarez has made a big difference, but they’ve lost Antoine Griezmann this year.

An improvement from fourth last year could be possible, but they were 25 points behind Barca.

Much will rely on Atletico Madrid holding on to Alvarez. Barcelona want the former Manchester City striker, and Arsenal have their eyes on him too.

Villarreal took third last season and have a new manager in charge in Iñigo Pérez. He led Rayo Vallecano to eighth last season and the Conference League final.

They’ve not made any new signings, and have lost experienced players in the middle of the pitch in Dani Parejo and Thomas Partey, as well as defender Alfonso Pedraza, so expect them to slide slightly.
