It’s been a while since Juventus played a major role in the UEFA Champions League, and there’s a huge question mark over whether Igor Tudor’s team is capable of making some noise this time around.

The Old Lady will open the new Champions League season hosting Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, September 17 at 05:00AM AEST in Turin.

Juventus vs Borussia Dortmund Betting Preview

Juventus have got off to a great start in Serie A, something we haven’t seen from them in recent years. Winning the first two games of the new season in the Italian top tier without conceding a goal looks like a promising start.

Igor Tudor, one of the best defensive players in his prime, has implemented his style to the team, and Juventus looks like a team that could at least put something of a fight up in this season’s Champions League. The first real test for the team from Turin will be Borussia Dortmund’s visit to town.

The German squad is also off to a good start, winning four points in the first two Bundesliga matches and scoring six goals. Serhou Guirassy has been one of the top scorers of the early season, and it will be interesting to see whether he can carry that form into European competition.

Juventus won a friendly game between these two teams 2-1 this summer, and the Italian squad won both games in the 2015 Champions League round of 16.

Juventus vs Borussia Dortmund Betting Predictions

Both Juventus and Borussia Dortmund have high expectations of the new Champions League season, but consistency is something that neither team has found in recent years.

This season marks exactly 30 years since Juventus won their last Champions League title. While they are unlikely to make history again, fans of the Old Lady will demand their side at least look competitive. Judging by the opening of Serie A, Juventus certainly look more confident.

After many transfer rumours, striker Dusan Vlahovic is still with the team, and he is expected to start for Juventus after coming off the bench at the start of the season. The Serb has seen his market value drop in the summer transfer window, and he should play with something to prove. For that reason, it’s probably a good bet to back Vlahovic to score… but that certainly does not guarantee Juventus will win.

The 20-year-old Kenan Yildiz is another player to watch for Juventus, with the Turkish striker expected to be one of the club’s real stars this season.

Rather surprisingly, Borussia Dortmund is one of those teams that often play much better away from home, and they will definitely lack no motivation when visiting Turin. Playing defensive football is not something that the Black and Yellow are well known for, so we also expect to see both teams scoring and a total over 2.5 goals.
