The first port of call at Euro 2024 is the group stages. The Euro 2024 groups see 32 nations get divided into six groups of four.

Each side in each group play each other once, with the two teams from each group who accrue the most points advancing to the round of 16. Goals scored and conceded as well as head-to-head results will be used to separate sides if points cannot.

Now that the logistics have been explained, it’s time for the tricky bit – picking who will advance from each group.

Luckily, that’s where we come in. We’ve cast our eye over each of the Euro 2024 groups and offered up predictions for who we believe will advance to the knockout stages.

So, before the action gets underway in Germany on June 14, make sure to check out our Euro 2024 groups predictions and betting tips below.

Group A

Germany, Scotland, Hungary, Switzerland

Hosts and heavyweights Germany are obviously overwhelming favourites to top Group A with aplomb and we are tipping them to do just that.

The big question for Group A is who will follow the hosts into the round of 16? There is a case to be made for all three nations.

Switzerland are the more proven performers at this level, Scotland were mighty impressive in qualifying, and Hungary have a squad bristling with big league talent.

While a Braveheart-esque run from Scotland would be a fairytale we’d love to see, it seems unlikely, as the Scots have never made it out of the group stage at the Euros in any of their four attempts.

That leaves a shootout between Hungary and Switzerland and while the Hungarians have people like Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai at their disposal, Switzerland’s showing at the last European Championships, makes them impossible not to back.

They made the quarterfinals three years ago, eliminating reigning World Champions at the time France, in the round of 16 and they’re our pick to join hosts Germany in the knockout stages.

Prediction: Germany (winner), Switzerland (runners up).

Group B

Spain, Croatia, Italy, Albania

The good old “Group of Death.” There’s always one at every major tournament. At Euro 2024 it’s Group B.

Spain, Croatia and Italy can all realistically top this group, with Albania the only notable weak link here.

While most of the mail will be for Spain, it’s important to remember it isn’t 2008 anymore.

This Spanish side is a far cry from the one that dominated world football approximately 15 years ago.

With many experts sleeping on reigning champions Italy and reliable dark horses Croatia, there is plenty of value to be had backing them to escape Group B ahead of the Spanish.

Prediction: Italy (winner), Croatia (runners up).

Group C

Slovenia, Denmark, Serbia, England

England should breeze through Group C as the outright tournament favourites, but who will join them in the round of 16?

We like Serbia here. Denmark are always highly rated, yet consistently disappointing. Remember when Mathew Leckie sent them packing at the most recent World Cup? Because we sure do.

Serbia have enough talent in the right places to be the best of the rest here, despite the market favouring the not so great Danes.

Prediction: England (winners), Serbia (runners up).

Group D

Netherlands, France, Poland, Austria

It’ll be nothing short of a miracle if France fail to top Group D with their wealth of talent all over the pitch.

The Dutch make for appealing candidates as the nation most likely to join Les Blues in the next round.

Their young side, which will be built on resolute defence and has a midfield containing players like Xavi Simons and Frenkie de Jong should be good enough to outlast the likes of Poland and Austria.

Prediction: France (winners), Netherlands (runners up).

Group E

Ukraine, Slovakia, Belgium, Romania

This group shows why the Euros should not have been expanded - the Group of Meh.

Belgium are the clear front runner, golden generation or not and Ukraine seem the most likely to be the best of the rest here.

Prediction: Belgium (winners), Ukraine (runners up).

Group F

Portugal, Czech Republic, Georgia, Turkey

The final Euro 2024 group sees one of the tournament favourites Portugal lumped together with Czech Republic, Georgia and Turkey.

Of the sides that do not have Cristiano Ronaldo leading their line, Turkey excites us the most. This is largely thanks to Real Madrid phenom Arda Guler.

If given sufficient game time the 19-year-old winger has enough magic in his boots to propel his country to the knockout stages ahead of both Czech Republic and Georgia.

Prediction: Portugal (winners), Turkey (runners up).
