Brentford vs Chelsea

It’s a West London battle in the English Premier League on Saturday when Chelsea make the short trip to Brentford.

The game will be played at the Gtech Community Stadium, where the two have shared plenty of entertaining encounters recently. The match will kick off at 05:00 AEST on Saturday, September 19.

Quick Picks

Our pick: Chelsea win

Value bet: Over 3.5 Goals

Long shot: Brentford leading at HT

Betting Preview

Keith Andrews is in his second year in charge of the Bees, having surprised everyone with his ability to lead the EPL side with very little experience after taking over from Thomas Frank.

He led them to a ninth-placed finish last season, and only just missed out on European competition.

And this season has started positively too, with one win and three draws from the four games played so far. After winning their opening game against Spurs in dominant fashion, they’ve had two 1-1 draws and are coming off a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth, where Kevin Schade scored both goals.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are in a new period, with Xabi Alonso cutting his teeth as a manager in the Premier League for the first time. The former Real Madrid boss has had a decent start to the campaign, having won two of his four (1D, 1L). His sole defeat was to Arsenal, while they were disappointing against Hull last time out (2-2).

Goals definitely haven’t been in short supply when the Blues have played, though, with Alonso’s front three of Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers, and Joao Pedro contributing to the club’s 10 goals so far this season (only Brighton have scored more, with 13).

Their problem is keeping the ball out of their net. They’ve conceded nine goals (only Ipswich, Crystal Palace and Coventry have shipped more), despite the addition of former Aston Villa keeper Emi Martinez (who has conceded four).

Betting Markets to Watch

The early odds could be a little misleading in this one, as Chelsea have been made favourites on a ground where they haven't had much success.

Brentford have always been a tough opponent for the Blues, and with Alonso’s side struggling against Hull last time, this could be another big challenge.

The draw looks to offer the most value. Each of the last four EPL matches between Brentford and Chelsea at Gtech Community Stadium has ended in a draw.

But a fifth on the bounce could be a stretch, and Chelsea have won the previous two meetings at Stamford Bridge, which is perhaps why they’ve been made favourites.

The goals market is going to be an interesting market for many, given the Blues’ record. The 'Over 2.5 Goals' market has hit in each of Chelsea's last eight Premier League matches as an away favourite.

However, there may be better value in the ‘Over 3.5’ market. It has hit in four of Brentford's last five EPL night matches as a home underdog. Additionally, the 'Both Teams to Score' market has hit in each of Chelsea's last eight EPL matches.

Danny Welbeck has scored a goal in four of his last five EPL appearances against Brentford, suggesting he has value, although it’s likely that he is going to have to score after coming on as a substitute for that to hit.

Our Prediction

We think a Chelsea win is the most likely outcome.

A long shot, though, is for Brentford to lead at HT; Chelsea has lost the first half in six of its last nine Premier League matches as a favourite.
