Among two of the favourites to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, only one of Algeria or Nigeria will be able to reach the semi-finals.

A quarter-final clash was set up after Algeria scored a very late goal against DR Congo in their Round of 16 match. Adil Boulbina scored in the 119th minute of the game, sparing the added anxiety of a penalty shootout.

Nigeria had a more comfortable Round of 16, defeating Mozambique 4-0, with a double from Victor Osimhen sandwiched between goals from Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams.

Now, they’ll face each other on Sunday, January 11, with kick-off scheduled for 03:00 AEDT. Want to find betting value and maximise your AFCON betting? Read on for our expert Algeria vs Nigeria betting predictions…

Algeria vs Nigeria Betting Preview

Looking ahead to this clash, it’s one that certainly adds a little spice and intrigue for bettors. Both nations advanced from the Group Phase by winning all three of their games.

Algeria were involved in Group E and managed to get through it by scoring seven goals. They conceded just one, making them one of the meanest in defence. Nigeria didn’t have trouble scoring goals, though, as they managed to net eight in Group C. However, keeping goals out was a problem, as they conceded four in those three games. They have had just one clean sheet so far, which came in the previous round.

Riyad Mahrez remains Algeria’s main threat, having scored three times in three matches (he was unused against Equatorial Guinea). Ibrahim Maza has two goals in this year’s AFCON.

Nigeria’s main threat has come from Lookman. His goal against Mozambique extended his tally to three goals in four games, while Osimhen’s brace took his own tally to three. Raphael Onyedika has two goals.

Algeria vs Nigeria Betting Predictions

When making our Algeria vs Nigeria betting predictions, we always recommend taking a look at various factors.

The head-to-head is always a good place to begin; are there any trends? The record is very interesting:

  • Nigeria wins: 9
  • Draw: 3
  • Algeria wins: 10

Interestingly, the last four meetings have gone Algeria's way. Two of these were in international friendlies, while one was in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Finals semi-final. The last time Nigeria won in this meeting was in 2016. With this in mind, our top Algeria vs Nigeria betting prediction is to back Algeria to win.

We think Lookman as an ‘Anytime Goalscorer’ is a good value bet, given how clinical he has been for Nigeria during this year’s AFCON. Given we think Nigeria will score and Algeria will win, we think there’s good value in the ‘Both Teams to Score’ market, with a ‘Correct Score’ of ‘Algeria 2-1’ bringing further potential value.
