The Trevoh Chalobah Como transfer from Chelsea has finally been made official, with the Serie A club confirming the signing of the centre-back in a deal reports value at more than £30 million, or roughly A$57 million.

The club will pay Chelsea an initial £25.7 million, about A$49 million, with a further £5.1 million, around A$10 million, available in add-ons, according to figures reported by Sky Sports.

For Chelsea, it closes a remarkable chapter that began not in a boardroom but on a training pitch, when Chalobah joined the club’s academy as an eight-year-old.

Now 27, he leaves as one of the last remaining links to a generation of homegrown Blues, having spent 19 years at Stamford Bridge in one capacity or another.

The timing is no accident. Chelsea have spent this transfer window trying to trim an oversized squad, and Chalobah, versatile but no longer a guaranteed starter, became one of the more saleable names on the list.

Como, freshly qualified for the Champions League after finishing fourth in Serie A in the 2025-26 season, and managed by Cesc Fabregas, were only too happy to complete the move.

Reports close to the deal suggested Chelsea initially pushed for a higher guaranteed fee given his academy roots before the two sides settled nearer Como’s own valuation.

Como’s ability to fund the move owes plenty to their extraordinary rise under Fabregas, who guided the club to a fourth-placed finish in Serie A this past season, a result that secured Champions League qualification for the first time in the club’s history.

That achievement gave the Lombardy side both the financial firepower and the sporting appeal to convince an England international to swap London for northern Italy.

Chalobah’s exit from Chelsea, though, is about more than money. He made 151 appearances across all competitions for the club, a tally that includes five trophies: two FIFA Club World Cups (2022 and 2025), the 2021 UEFA Super Cup, and the 2024-25 Conference League among them.

He also picked up two senior England caps and a late call-up to the Three Lions’ World Cup squad, underlining his rise from academy prospect to international player.

According to reports, Chalobah made his preference for Como fairly clear during talks, drawn to a defined defensive role under a coach he trusts rather than a fight for minutes in an increasingly crowded Chelsea back line.
