Scotland vs Morocco Prediction

Scotland and Morocco meet at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough for a Group C clash that could shape both sides' tournament destiny.

Scotland sit top of the group after a gritty 1-0 win over Haiti, while Morocco showed their class by taking the lead against Brazil before settling for a 1-1 draw.

This is a massive step up in opposition for the Scots, and Morocco will fancy themselves to take all three points.

Scotland's return to the World Cup after 28 years has been workmanlike rather than spectacular. John McGinn's deflected strike got the job done against Haiti, but Steve Clarke's side created precious little else, with Scott McTominay's effort off the post their best open-play chance.

Losing Billy Gilmour to a knee injury before the tournament robbed them of midfield control, and it showed.

Morocco, meanwhile, looked every bit the side that reached the World Cup semi-finals four years ago.

Ismael Saibari's opener against Brazil was the product of a team that knows exactly what it's doing at this level, and even with Abde Ezzalzouli, Nayef Aguerd and Hakim Ziyech all absent from the squad, the depth of talent at Mohamed Ouahbi's disposal is formidable.

Sofyan Amrabat anchors the midfield, Brahim Diaz pulls the strings, and Ayoub El Kaabi offers a genuine focal point up front.

The last time these two met at a World Cup, Morocco won 3-0 and sent Scotland packing. History could well repeat itself.

To celebrate the momentous occasion that is the World Cup, Sportsbet is bringing back its exclusive Super Sub feature!

How does Super Sub work? Well, it’s very simple. Place a bet on select player markets throughout the Men’s World Cup and if that player is subbed off your bet rolls over to the new player that replaced them.

For example, if you’ve bet on Kylian Mbappe to score during one of France’s matches and during that match he fails to do so and is directly substituted for Jean-Philippe Mateta who ends up scoring instead, your original bet on Mbappe is paid as a winner!

Super Sub is not exclusive to goalscoring markets either, it also applies to anytime assist, player to win one or more fouls, shots on target and more, just make sure to read all the T&Cs before locking in your bet.

Scotland vs Morocco prediction

Morocco to win. As our Scotland vs Morocco betting odds page suggests, the Atlas Lions only need to replicate the level they showed against Brazil to be too good for Scotland here.

The gap in squad quality is significant, and Morocco's tournament pedigree speaks for itself.

Scotland are built to be hard to beat, but they lack the creativity to trouble Morocco's defence consistently, and Ouahbi's men carry far more threat going forward. Expect Morocco to control this match and grind out the result.

Back the under 2.5 goals as well. Scotland beat Haiti 1-0 in a tight, low-event affair. Morocco drew 1-1 with Brazil in a match where just eight shots hit the target from 27 attempts.

Clarke will set up to frustrate and both teams understand the stakes. Neither side can afford to throw caution to the wind, with qualification still to be settled in the final round. A 1-0 or 2-0 Morocco win looks the most likely scoreline.

If you fancy stacking this one with other fixtures, it's worth getting your head around how a multi bet works first, and you can scope the rest of the markets over at the World Cup betting hub.

Player markets to watch

Our pick: Ismael Saibari to score anytime.

The midfielder opened his World Cup account with a well-taken goal against Brazil and has looked the most dangerous creative force in this Morocco side.

With Ezzalzouli and Ziyech absent, Saibari carries extra attacking responsibility and he's delivering. Scotland's midfield without Gilmour could struggle to track his late runs into the box.

Our pick: Ayoub El Kaabi to score anytime.

Morocco's first-choice striker will be desperate to get on the scoresheet after a quiet outing against Brazil.

El Kaabi is a poacher who thrives on service from wide areas, and with Brahim Diaz expected to drift inside and create, chances should come.

Scotland's backline looked shaky at times against Haiti and this is a serious upgrade in opposition.

Our pick: Scott McTominay to have a shot on target.

McTominay hit the post against Haiti and was arguably Scotland's most threatening player going forward.

He'll push further up the pitch as Scotland chase the match, and his ability to arrive late in the box gives him shooting opportunities that others in this Scotland side simply won't get. He looks the most likely Scot to trouble the keeper.
