New Zealand vs Egypt Prediction

17/06/2026|SB Staff|World Cup 2026 Tips & Predictions

The World Cup rolls on with a fascinating Group G clash as New Zealand take on Egypt.

Darren Bazeley's All Whites arrive buoyed by their Oceania qualification run and opening game draw against Iran and will look to continue leaning on Nottingham Forest talisman Chris Wood to spearhead their attack alongside young star Elijah Just in midfield.

The Kiwis know they need a result here to keep their knockout hopes breathing, so don’t expect them to play scared here.

Egypt, under Hossam Hassan are undoubtedly the more decorated outfit on paper. With Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah pulling the strings and Manchester City's Omar Marmoush providing genuine pace and finishing, the Pharaohs have world-class talent, New Zealand simply do not.

Expect a tactical, physical contest with Egypt holding more of the ball and New Zealand looking to spring on the counter through Wood and Just.

Also, to celebrate the momentous occasion that is the World Cup, Sportsbet is bringing back its exclusive Super Sub feature!

How does Super Sub work? Well, it’s very simple. Place a bet on select player markets throughout the Men’s World Cup and if that player is subbed off your bet rolls over to the new player that replaced them.

For example, if you’ve bet on Chris Wood to score during this match and he fails to do so and is directly substituted for Kosta Barbarouses who ends up scoring instead, your original bet on Wood is paid as a winner!

Super Sub is not exclusive to goalscoring markets either, it also applies to anytime assist, player to win one or more fouls, shots on target and more, just make sure to read all the T&Cs before locking in your bet.

Now back to the action! For the latest betting tips and analysis ahead of this Group G game at the World Cup, check out our New Zealand vs Egypt tips and predictions below.

New Zealand vs Egypt Predictions

Head-to-Head Prediction

Egypt enter this fixture as a deserved favourite at 1.60, and there's plenty to like about that price.

The Pharaohs boast the standout individual on the pitch in Mohamed Salah, plus a sharp foil in Omar Marmoush, who has hit form for Manchester City this season. New Zealand have shown resilience under Bazeley, but the gulf in attacking quality is significant.

Egypt's African qualification campaign showcased their ability to grind out results, and they should have enough patience and craft to break down a deep-lying Kiwi block. Value lies with the favourite here.

Betting tip: Egypt.

Correct Score Prediction

Picking correct scores is always tricky, but the shape of this match points to a controlled Egyptian win rather than a goal fest.

New Zealand are well-drilled defensively, with Tyler Bindon and Michael Boxall offering aerial presence, and Bazeley will set up to frustrate and hit on the counter through the pace of Just.

Egypt have the patience to keep probing until Salah or Marmoush unlocks the door. A single goal could be enough, and at 6.00, Egypt 1-0 represents the shortest-priced realistic scoreline on offer, but New Zealand showed their appetite for goals in their opener, and we don’t fancy them to be completely shut out here.

Betting tip: 2-1 Egypt.

First Goal Prediction

When you've got Mohamed Salah on the park, he's almost always the smart play in the first goalscorer market.

Priced at 4.00, the former Liverpool superstar is the shortest-priced option and for good reason.

Salah takes Egypt's set pieces, drifts in from the right, and is a constant threat from open play. Against a New Zealand side likely to sit deep, his ability to drift into pockets and strike from range could prove decisive early.

Omar Marmoush at 4.50 is a tempting alternative, as is Chris Wood for all the All-White fans, but Salah's involvement in everything Egypt do makes him the value selection in our opinion.

Betting tip: Mohamed Salah.
