Born on the Gold Coast in 1987, Denan Kemp showed a talent for Soccer from an early age.

Despite his love of the beautiful game, Kemp would go on to carve out a career as a professional Rugby League player.

He debuted for the Brisbane Broncos in round 10 of the 2007 NRL season against the Manly Sea Eagles and went on to score a stunning individual try that would go on to be recognised as one of the tries of the season.

The following year proved to be Kemp’s breakout season in the NRL. He went on to play 24 games for Brisbane, scoring 19 tries, including a miraculous four try haul in one game against the Parramatta Eels.

This try scoring blitz not only included a match winner on the buzzer, but also came mere hours after Kemp had announced he would join the New Zealand Warriors in 2009.

He finished the year as the Broncos leading try scorer and was subsequently named the club’s rookie of the year.

He moved to the Warriors the following season and put his childhood soccer skills to use, becoming the club’s goal-kicker for the first half of the year.

After signing for the Warriors, Kemp was unable to recapture his Brisbane glory days and after further stints at St George, back at the Broncos and in Rugby Union, he ultimately called time on his playing career in 2013.

Despite a limited playing career, Kemp is now one of the most recognisable faces in Rugby League thanks to the success of his podcast and his Bloke in a Bar brand.
