An AFL tragic from a young age, Dan Gorringe was born in the Crows heartland of Adelaide, South Australia.

While he would never go on to play for his boyhood team, he would become a professional AFL player, just a little further away from home than he might have initially hoped.

Dan was part of the Gold Coast Suns inaugural squad and made his debut for them in round 3 of their debut season.

He is best known for taking a spectacular mark on his debut that was controversially not awarded by the umpires. Many believe had it been awarded; it would have gone on to win Mark of the Year.

Dan’s career was dogged by injuries and after his time on the Gold Coast he played one season for Carlton before deciding to hang them up and focus on other things.

One of those things surprisingly turned out to be reality TV! Dan appeared on the 2020 version of Big Brother Australia where he finished runner up.

Since then, he has become a known personality in the sports media sphere and a frequent Sportsbet collaborator.

I’m 55 metres out on a tight angle at Adelaide Oval. Gary Ablett calls for the hands around the back, but I looked him in the eyes and said, “I’ve got this Gaz”. Sure enough I kick the goal and with that moment earned his respect, before losing it again the week after.

Almost taking the mark of the year in my debut game.

Spag bowl, Garlic bread, BBQ chips and a Kit Kat Crunchy.

Carlton’s semifinal win against Melbourne in 2023. The G was rocking.
