New Zealand Women vs Samoa Women Prediction
Saturday, November 7, 5:45pm AEDT – McDonald Jones Stadium
New Zealand head into this semi-final full of confidence after a 40-12 win over Papua New Guinea in their final pool match.
That performance showcased the depth of the Ferns attacking options, with Otesa Pule producing a brilliant solo try, while Mackenzie Wiki and Abigail Roache each crossed for doubles.
When a side has four different try-scoring threats firing in the same match, it's a strong indicator of a team peaking at the right time.
Samoa's path to the semi-finals tells a different story. Their 24-6 win over England was built on grit as much as flair, headlined by a hat-trick from Freedom Crichton Ropati.
Mercedez Taulelei-Siala and Tyra Ekepati also got through plenty of work, suggesting Samoa's strength lies in a well-rounded squad rather than a single standout performer.
On paper, the Kiwis attacking spread gives them the edge. Their ability to score through multiple channels will make life difficult for a Samoan defence that, while committed, hasn't faced an attack quite this varied in the tournament so far.
Samoa's best path to an upset is likely to come through field position and defensive pressure, forcing errors rather than trying to match New Zealand try for try. Whether they have the personnel to convert that field position in the clutch remains to be seen.
Betting tip: New Zealand Women.
Australia Women vs Fiji Women Prediction
Sunday, November 8, 5:45pm AEDT – Allianz Stadium
If there's one word to describe Australia's semi-final qualification, it's emphatic. The Jillaroos put 124 points on Wales in a result that will be talked about for years.
Jaime Chapman was simply unstoppable, crossing for a mind-blowing six tries, while Jesse Southwell racked up 44 individual points and Jess Sergis chipped in with four tries of her own.
It's hard to overstate how dominant that performance was, and it sends a clear message to the rest of the tournament.
Fiji, by contrast, have had to work harder for their place in the final four, but their 54-6 win over France was still a statement result.
Tahlia Marshall, Latisha Smythe and Cassie Staples were all influential, and the return of Maria Paseka from injury, even with another leg concern picked up along the way, shows the squad depth Fiji is leaning on to get through this tournament.
The scale of Australia's win over Wales suggests they're operating on a different level to the rest of the competition right now.
Fiji will need near-perfect execution and a bit of luck with injuries to stay competitive, particularly if Paseka's leg issue limits her involvement.
Regardless though, unsurprisingly we will not be tipping against the side coming off the biggest win in International Rugby League history and simultaneously outscored the Australian cricket team.
Betting tip: Australia Women.
