NRL Tips and Predictions – Round 8

24/04/2025|Joel Caine|NRL Expert Predictions & Tips

The long weekend of Easter footy now gives way to another special week in the NRL – ANZAC Round.

Across all matches in NRL round 8, Rugby League will take a moment to remember all those who have served.

The action this week will of course be headlined by the Dragons and Roosters traditional ANZAC Day clash, which is always one of the highlights of the season.

That’s not the only big fixture on the horizon though, with the undefeated Bulldogs travelling to take on the Broncos, and two of the game’s most in form teams, the Dolphins and the Raiders going toe-to-toe in the nation’s capital.

For the latest news, odds and predictions for those games, as well as the rest of this weekend’s fixtures, check out our NRL round 8 tips and predictions below.

Brisbane Broncos vs Canterbury Bulldogs Prediction

Thursday, April 24, 7:50pm AEST – Suncorp Stadium

The first game of NRL round 8 should be an absolute firecracker. The undefeated Bulldogs will head up to Queensland to take on the once heavily fancied Broncos at Suncorp Stadium.

The Bulldogs remain the only consistently tippable team left in the NRL, as they have delivered every single week without fail.

Last week was no exception, seeing off the Bunnies without conceding on Good Friday, as they again reaffirmed their burgeoning title credentials.

The same could not be said for Brisbane however, a 50m golden point penalty goal in the pouring rain, robbing them of a famous comeback victory in New Zealand.

Losing to an undermanned Warriors outfit is a crushing blow for the Broncos and their own title aspirations and it’s clear at the moment something isn’t quite right at Red Hill.

Now they will be without fullback Reece Walsh for the next 4-6 weeks, however, there is an argument to be made that he has already been missing all season.

Back at Suncorp we’re sure they’ll give the Doggies a good go, but we’re not about to jump off the Canterbury bandwagon just yet.

Head-to-head prediction: Canterbury Bulldogs.

Betting tip: Jacob Preston first try scorer.

Sydney Roosters vs St George Illawarra Dragons Prediction

Friday, April 25, 4:00pm AEST – Allianz Stadium

The headline fixture of NRL round 8, the Roosters and the Dragons will meet on Friday afternoon for their annual ANZAC Day clash.

Regardless of who is on the team sheet or where these two are on the ladder, this game always delivers. It also makes tipping it a rather daunting task.

The Roosters came crashing back down to earth last week, backing up their famous upset win over Brisbane at Lang Park by conceding 40 to struggling Penrith.

The Dragons on the other hand made it back-to-back wins by pipping Manly at 4 Pines Park in a gutsy and controlled display.

That showing was enough for us to take St George here in what should be a close fought thriller.

Head-to-head prediction: St George Illawarra Dragons.

Betting tip: Clint Gutherson first try scorer.

New Zealand Warriors vs Newcastle Knights Prediction

Friday, April 25, 6:05pm AEST – Apollo Projects Stadium

The Warriors get another week in New Zealand as they head to Christchurch where they will link up with the Newcastle Knights on Friday night.

Spirits will be high at Wahs HQ after their golden point victory over Brisbane last week sent them back into the top four.

Young half Luke Metcalf went from hero, to villain, back to hero in the space of 80 and a half minutes. Apparently, it’s easier to kick goals from 50 out than 20 out in the pouring rain, who knew?

For the Knights their season went from bad to worse, as they were humbled at home by the Sharks.

With the pressure now mounting on head coach Adam O’Brien and points still very much at a premium for Newcastle, we’ll be taking the Warriors in this one, particularly on their own patch.

Head-to-head prediction: New Zealand Warriors.

Betting tip: Luke Metcalf anytime try scorer.

Melbourne Storm vs South Sydney Rabbitohs Prediction

Friday. April 25, 8:10pm AEST – AAMI Park

Can anyone remember the last time the Melbourne Storm conceded 40 points? Well, the Dolphins decided to jog everyone’s memories last week, with a Suncorp Stadium ambush, the likes of which we have rarely seen.

It was just another crazy upset in a season already full of them, but it forces the Storm to do some serious soul searching. Searching they’ll have to do without rake, Harry Grant who will be missing for the next month minimum.

Souths also have to do some searching of their own, but for points, after they were shut out by the Bulldogs in a 32-0 blitz on Good Friday.

Facing a side who are coming off two disappointing losses, at home, is as good as it gets when looking for an immediate bounce back. A bounce back we are tipping Melbourne to find here.

Head-to-head prediction: Melbourne Storm.

Betting tip: SGM – Latrell Mitchell and Cameron Munster anytime try scorers.

North Queensland Cowboys vs Gold Coast Titans Prediction

Saturday, April 26, 5:30pm AEST – Queensland Country Bank Stadium

A fully rested Cowboys’ outfit will be looking to continue their renaissance when they welcome fellow Queenslanders, the Titans, to the tropics on Saturday afternoon.

Before their bye last week, the Cowboys had won their last three games in a row, to correct their horror 0-3 start to the season.

They now sit on the precipice of the top eight and playing against a side who have lost their last three on the spin, we’re tipping them to get the chocolates a week later than everyone else.

Head-to-head prediction: North Queensland Cowboys.

Betting tip: Jaxon Purdue first try scorer.

Penrith Panthers vs Manly Sea Eagles Prediction

Saturday, April 26, 7:35pm AEST – CommBank Stadium

Are we about to witness the return of the real Penrith Panthers? Based on last week’s performance it would appear so.

The reigning quadruple champions managed to stop the rot of five straight losses with a dominant win over the Roosters.

It’s no surprise their return to the winner’s list coincided with the return of gun No.1 Dylan Edwards.

This week they face a Sea Eagles side in free fall mode. Last week’s loss to St George was their third in a row and we can see it becoming four in NRL round 8.

Head-to-head prediction: Penrith Panthers.

Betting tip: Dylan Edwards anytime try scorer.

Canberra Raiders vs The Dolphins Prediction

Sunday, April 27, 2:00pm AEST – GIO Stadium

Aside from the Bulldogs, it’s fair to say the Raiders and the Dolphins are the two form sides in the competition.

The Phins have come from nowhere to enter the conversation for the eight, while the Raiders have rocketed to third on the back of three straight wins.

Canberra might be the favourites in the H2H market, but they’ll be on red-alert after the Dolphins dismantled Melbourne last start despite entering that one as the underdogs too. Anyone got a coin? We’re going to let home ground advantage be the deciding factor here. Canberra in a close one.

Head-to-head prediction: Canberra Raiders.

Betting tip: Sebastian Kris first try scorer.

Wests Tigers vs Cronulla Sharks Prediction

Sunday, April 27, 4:05pm AEST – Leichhardt Oval

It was a tale of two halves for the Tigers as they became only the second team this season to lose to Parramatta last week.

We’re not talking about 40-minute increments either, we’re talking about players. Dropping young five-eight Lachlan failed to galvanise the Tigers, as returning Parra and NSW halfback Mitchell Moses orchestrated their downfall with a stone cold masterclass.

It’s become apparent to all that the Tigers have hit the self-destruct button and unless they reinstate Galvin this week, we can only see the black and orange train flying further off the tracks. Sharks by plenty here.

Head-to-head prediction: Cronulla Sharks.

Betting tip: Will Kennedy anytime try scorer.

Parramatta Eels – BYE

After winning just their second game of the season, largely thanks to the return of captain and halfback Mitchell Moses, the Parramatta Eels get a well-earned week of in NRL round 8.

NRL 2025 Premiership Odds
