Lest we forget. That will be the main theme of NRL round 8, as Rugby League remembers the Anzacs.

Round 8 will of course be headlined by the Dragons and Roosters annual Anzac Day clash which never fails to deliver entertainment of the highest order.

There are also many other storylines set to play out as well as the potential return of a superstar or two.

As always, this week of NRL action is not to be missed. For the latest round 8 analysis, news, odds, and betting tips, check out our NRL round 8 tips and predictions.

New Zealand Warriors vs Gold Coast Titans Prediction

Thursday, April 25, 2:00pm AEST – Go Media Stadium

Getting things started in round 8 are the New Zealand Warriors and the Gold Coast Titans.

The Wahs were the victims of this season’s unpredictable nature last week, as they were blown off the park by the inconsistent Dragons.

Luckily, they get to face the only winless side left in the NRL this week – the Gold Coast Titans.

There could have very easily been no winless teams left at the conclusion of last round, but for the second week running the Titans ended up on the wrong side of a high scoring shootout.

They fell just a single try short of Manly in a 34-30 thriller for the ages. The Glitter Strip boys have shown their penchant for scoring and conceding plenty of points in the last fortnight and this is a trend we are tipping to continue here.

Unfortunately for the Gold Coast faithful, that won’t be the only trend continuing.

Sugar says: Shaun Johnson has to be in significant doubt for this one and all their attack is around him. Titans are very close to their first win. They have also won their last three out of four against the Wahs, including their last match in NZ. Plenty of upside to be on Dessies men with the +11.5.

Head-to-head prediction: New Zealand Warriors.

Sugar’s tip: Titans line.

St George Illawarra Dragons vs Sydney Roosters Prediction

Thursday, April 25, 4:05pm AEST – Allianz Stadium

As always, this will be the highlight of NRL round 8 and Anzac round. The Dragons and Roosters annual Anzac Day clash is always one to watch.

It’s also now incredibly hard to tip after the Dragon’s resounding win over the highly rated Warriors last week.

Despite securing a switch to the Eels next season and claiming he’s unhappy, Zac Lomax is in career best form and finds himself atop the Dally M leaderboard.

He’ll be one to watch in the first try scorer market and while his side were impressive last week, they are perhaps the most hot and cold team in the NRL this season.

Sublime one week, ridiculous the next, which Dragons will we get in round 8? Until we see genuine consistency, we’re going to have to ride the swings and try and zig and zag at the right time, starting this week.

Sugar says: Dom Young is a big in for the Chooks. The Roosters have played most of the big guns and their biggest loss is just seven points. Dragons boast heavy losses to the Cowboys, Knights and Dolphins. Jumping on -5.5 in case it ticks above the converted try start.

Head-to-head prediction: Sydney Roosters.

Sugar’s tip: Roosters line.

Melbourne Storm vs South Sydney Rabbitohs Prediction

Thursday, April 25, 7:50pm AEST – AAMI Park

The Bunnies return from the bye with some much-needed points and their embattled coach Jason Demetriou still at the helm.

A loss here, which is expected, may very well be the end of the road for JD, although we’ve been saying that for weeks now.

Souths need to do something to save their season, unfortunately they’re about to run into a sizzling Storm side who are equal first and playing at home.

Head-to-head prediction: Melbourne Storm.

Betting tip: Big win little win - Storm 13+

Manly Sea Eagles vs Parramatta Eels Prediction

Friday, April 26, 8:00pm AEST – Brookvale Oval

A road trip gone wrong for Parramatta has them left reeling heading into this round 8 clash against Manly.

Their second half shemozzle against the Dolphins in the Darwin heat has thrown the Blue and Gold under the microscope (particularly their defence), with head coach Brad Arthur branding his side “a part-time footy team.”

Winning in the NRL is a full-time commitment, one this Sea Eagles side seems to know all about, as they have surged to fifth on the ladder after yet another win last week.

Head-to-head prediction: Manly Sea Eagles.

Betting tip: SGM – Both fullback to score.

Wests Tigers vs Brisbane Broncos Prediction

Saturday, April 27, 5:30pm AEST – Campbelltown Sports Stadium

The Tigers were no match for one of last year’s grand finalists in their most recent outing and this week they have to play the other.

Yes, it's their turn to try and hold on to the bucking Broncos this week after the Raiders were launched off last time out.

The return dates of Adam Reynolds and Payne Haas are still unknown, it could be this week, it could not. Regardless, with Reece Walsh in this kind of form, they should be able to account for the Tigers, even at Campbelltown.

Head-to-head prediction: Brisbane Broncos.

Betting tip: Reece Walsh anytime try scorer.

North Queensland Cowboys vs Penrith Panthers Prediction

Saturday, April 27, 7:35pm AEST – Queensland Country Bank Stadium

After starting the season like a house on fire, the Cowboys have gone completely backwards.

They played the role of the chum in a Sharks feeding frenzy last week, as they conceded a whopping 42 points in the Shire.

It doesn’t get any easier this week either, with the purring Panthers ready to pounce.

This could also be the week we finally see Nathan Cleary return to the fold after a false start last week.

Head-to-head prediction: Penrith Panthers.

Betting tip: Nathan Cleary to score 10+ points (if named).

The Dolphins vs Newcastle Knights Prediction

Sunday, April 28, 2:00pm AEST – Suncorp Stadium

The Phins were certainly up as they turned in a second half clinic against Parra in Darwin last week.

Despite missing their star player and their coach, they simply blew Parra out of the water in the second stanza, despite trailing when they were chomping on the half time oranges.

Stand-in fullback Trai Fuller has speed for days, Jack Bostock grabbed a hattrick and rampaging lock forward Max Plath found his name on the scoreboard twice.

The Knights were pummelled by the Dogs last week and up in Queensland, they may be in for another long night.

Head-to-head prediction: The Dolphins.

Betting tip: Jack Bostock 2+ tries.

Canberra Raiders vs Cronulla Sharks Prediction

Sunday, April 28, 4:05pm AEST – GIO Stadium

The final game of round 8 sees the Raiders host the table topping Sharks at GIO Stadium.

There will no doubt be stirring scenes in the Nation’s Capital as always to honour those who have served.

This will surely be more than enough motivation for both sides to put their best foot forward.

As it stands, Cronulla are the best team in the land and until they are otherwise, we won’t be betting against them.

That being said, expect the Raiders to provide plenty of resistance in front of their home supports in such a momentous round.

Sugar says: An early play on Sharks -8.5 here. Horsburgh, Rapana, Whitehead, Hosking and Fogarty all expected absentees. Jamal averages 580 kick metres per match. Neither Weekes or Strange are regular 7s or kickers. Goal kicking will also be an issue.

Head-to-head prediction: Cronulla Sharks.

Sugar’s tip: Sharks line.

Canterbury Bulldogs – BYE

After an impressive performance that showed off the full capabilities of their attacking weapons, the Bulldogs get a well-earned week off in round 8.
