NRL Tips and Predictions – Round 7

16/04/2025|Joel Caine|NRL Expert Predictions & Tips

That’s it, we’re calling it. This is the most chaotic and unpredictable season we have seen for years.

Just when you think you know what’s going on, another curveball gets fired your way. That has obviously left NRL tipping comps across the country in complete disarray, so is it time to start leaning into the chaos?

Do we start getting behind Penrith’s downfall? Do we now accept the understrength Roosters have an almighty upset in them every few weeks? And do we start to throw our support behind Queensland revivalists, the Cowboys and Dolphins?

So many questions, how about some answers? Here are our expert NRL round 7 tips and predictions.

Manly Sea Eagles vs St George Illawarra Dragons Prediction

Thursday, April 17, 7:50pm AEST – Brookvale Oval

Opening up NRL round 7 are the Manly Sea Eagles and the St George Illawarra Dragons at Brookvale Oval.

After a promising start to the season that had them earmarked by many as a genuine premiership threat, the Sea Eagles have begun to spiral.

Another Tommy Turbo injury and the DCE drama has them staring down the barrel of a third consecutive loss, should they fall to the Dragons in round 7.

There’s a good chance that happens too, particularly after the Dragons impressive win over the Titans last start.

The Red V showcased the attacking potency of their outside backs such as: Christian Tuipulotu, Tyrell Sloan and Valentine Holmes, and we’re backing them to run in more tries than their struggling opponents on Thursday night.

Head-to-head prediction: St George Illawarra Dragons.

Betting tip: Tyrell Sloan first try scorer.

Canterbury Bulldogs vs South Sydney Rabbitohs Prediction

Friday, April 18, 4:05pm AEST – Stadium Australia

Good Friday? How about great Friday! That’s what it’s shaping up to be with this absolute beauty of a round 7 matchup.

The Bulldogs and Rabbitohs annual Good Friday tussle should be extra entertaining this year, with both sides among the more consistent of their class in 2025.

Well, the Bulldogs are the personification of consistency so far this season, as they are the only remaining team yet to lose a game.

They are also coming off the bye so will be fully rested and raring to go in front of what is expected to be a bumper crowd as always.

It won’t come as much of a surprise that we won’t be betting against a side yet to lose this year, but the way this season has been going, watch the Rabbitohs win this one somehow.

Head-to-head prediction: Canterbury Bulldogs.

Betting tip: Bronson Xerri first try scorer.

The Dolphins vs Melbourne Storm Prediction

Friday, April 18, 8:00pm AEST – Suncorp Stadium

Phins up? That’s the way they’re trending at the moment. After a disastrous start to the season that saw them lose their opening four games, Kristian Woolf’s side have won their last two outings in fine style.

Last week’s performance against Penrith was particularly impressive, as they ran in a slew of stunning tries, headlined by a Hammer hat-trick.

While they are now a team in form, taking down the Melbourne Storm is a tall order for anyone, and frankly we just can’t see the Phins making it three wins in a row on Friday night.

The door for a huge upset has been left slightly ajar thanks to a shoulder injury to reigning Dally M medalist Jahrome Hughes, but even without the Kiwi superstar, surely the Storm have too much spark for the home side here.

Head-to-head prediction: Melbourne Storm.

Betting tip: Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow first try scorer.

New Zealand Warriors vs Brisbane Broncos Prediction

Saturday, April 19, 5:30pm AEST – Go Media Stadium

After having their losing streak against the Storm extended to 17 straight games, the Warriors return to New Zealand in NRL round 7 with their tails between their legs and the Brisbane Broncos in tow.

The Broncos won’t be feeling too crash hot either after being scalped by massive underdogs, the Roosters on their own patch last week.

These recent results make this a bit of a sticky situation tipping wise. The Warriors always turn up at home and the Broncos suddenly look rather vulnerable.

But do we really want to back a team that conceded 42 points last week to beat a side considered among the premiership favorites? In this crazy, crazy season, you absolutely bet we do.

Head-to-head prediction: New Zealand Warriors.

Betting tip: Luke Metcalf anytime try scorer.

Sydney Roosters vs Penrith Panthers Prediction

Saturday, April 19, 7:35pm AEST – Allianz Stadium

This truly is uncharted territory for this team. Five losses in a row, and only points difference keeping them off the foot of the ladder. Where do Penrith go from here?

Obviously they have the talent to pick themselves off the canvas, but do they have the belief? Most of their players would never have experienced anything like this before.
It’s strange to think but in the space of six short rounds, the Panthers have gone from unbeatable to unpickable in our eyes and as a result we will be taking the Chooks here.

This decision was made even easier by their stunning win over the highly fancied Broncos at Lang Park last week.

Head-to-head prediction: Sydney Roosters.

Betting tip: Angus Crichton anytime try scorer.

Gold Coast Titans vs Canberra Raiders Prediction

Sunday, April 20, 2:00pm AEST – Robina Stadium

You nearly had us. Almost. One more win and we would have been firmly on the “the Titans are good this year” bandwagon.

The veil has been lifted by two losses and now we’re going cold on the coast of gold. To avoid three straight losses, Des Hasler’s men will have to see off the Raiders who have recorded impressive back-to-back wins.

They put a half century on cellar dwellers Parramatta in Darwin last week, with most of their tries coming courtesy of their forward pack.

After showing their irreverence for location last week, we like the Raiders on the road here. Look to them to complete two hat-tricks on Sunday afternoon. A trio of wins from them and a trio of losses for their opponents.

Head-to-head prediction: Canberra Raiders.

Betting tip: Matthew Timoko first try scorer.

Newcastle Knights vs Cronulla Sharks Prediction

Sunday, April 20, 4:05pm AEST – McDonald Jones Stadium

If you can’t score tries, you’re probably not going to be able to win football matches. Take the Newcastle Knights for example.

Two tries in their last three matches has left them in the lurch after a strong start to the season.

Now questions are being asked of head coach Adam O’Brien and his offensive coordinators, so don’t be surprised to see a shake up in the key attacking positions come team list Tuesday.

Despite being at home here, we can’t side with a team that can’t score points and will be taking the Sharks who, last week, resumed swimming in the right direction

Head-to-head prediction: Cronulla Sharks.

Betting tip: Under total match points.

Wests Tigers vs Parramatta Eels Prediction

Monday, April 21, 4:00pm AEST – CommBank Stadium

We have a classic Easter Monday clash to wrap up NRL round 7, with the Wests Tigers taking on the Parramatta Eels.

Before a ball has even been kicked, the Tigers have been rocked by the news that star five-eighth Lachlan Glavin will leave the club at season’s end.

Ironically, one of his most likely destinations is the Parramatta Eels, particularly after their current No.6 Dylan Brown was poached by the Knights for next year.

That leaves a big hole in their side and salary cap, but at the moment the Eels have a lot bigger problems than potential recruitment.

The Eels returned to untippable status last week, backing up their one-point win over the Dragons by swiftly conceding 50 to the Raiders.

Despite the Galvin drama which will obviously dominate headlines throughout the week, the Tigers should be able to keep enough focus to see off the hapless Eels.

Head-to-head prediction: Wests Tigers.

Betting tip: SGM - Lachlan Galvin & Dylan Brown anytime try scorers.

North Queensland Cowboys – BYE

There’s a well-earned bye on the cards for the North Queensland Cowboys in NRL round 7, after they took down the Bunnies for their third straight win last week.

NRL 2025 Premiership Odds
