NRL round 22 certainly has a lot to live up to after last week provided some truly mind-blowing results.

The Broncos were bounced at home by traditional whipping boys Parramatta, the Titans had to leave the country to find a team they could beat, and the Panthers continue to sharpen their claws for September.

With the rounds running out and the finals picture shifting further into focus every passing week, the time is now to dig deep and start grinding out results.

Who will lock in and pick up the points they so desperately need and who will be left wondering what could have been as another season passes them by?

Hopefully our NRL round 22 tips and predictions will have the answer to this quandary along with some useful betting insights for all our loyal readers.

Parramatta Eels vs Melbourne Storm Prediction

Thursday, July 31, 7:50pm AEST – CommBank Stadium

They couldn’t slay another giant, could they? The Parramatta Eels produced the headline result of last round, ending the Broncos five-game winning streak, while bringing to a close their own three-game winless run.

If they want to keep the wolves away for a second consecutive week and put further real estate between them and a potential wooden spoon, they’re going to have to pull off one of the upsets of the season.

They welcome the Melbourne Storm to CommBank Stadium in what will be a tale of two halves. Eels skipper Mitchell Moses returned from injury last week and underlined his standing as one of the game’s most influential players, with a masterclass that had the Eels looking nothing like their usual, timid selves.

With one star playmaker back from injury, another has succumbed to it. Reigning Dally M Medallist and Melbourne maestro Jahrome Hughes dislocated his shoulder in his side’s insane 34-30 win over the Roosters last week.

While he has been cleared of serious damage and should return before finals, he will have to sit this one out.

Does this open the window for the Eels to pull off another shock? As tempting as it is to follow Moses to the promised land of value, there’s just no way the Eels could pull off back-to-back upsets of this magnitude, right?

Head-to-head prediction: Melbourne Storm.

Betting tip: Mitchell Moses to score and assist.

New Zealand Warriors vs The Dolphins Prediction

Friday, August 1, 6:00pm AEST – Go Media Stadium

After falling to one Queensland club in New Zealand last week, the Warriors welcome another in the form of the Dolphins in NRL round 22.

The Warriors injuries finally caught up with them as they were shocked by the Titans in a 24-16 boilover that isn’t ideal for their aspirations of holding on to their spot in the top four.

The Dolphins sit exactly eighth and will be raring to go after a big win and a bye in quick succession.

The Warriors have been known to slip when the pressure gets ratcheted up and after last week’s showing, we’re tipping them to take another untimely L in the race for the top four.

Head-to-head prediction: The Dolphins.

Betting tip: Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow first try scorer.

Brisbane Broncos vs South Sydney Rabbitohs Prediction

Friday, August 1, 8:00pm AEST – Suncorp Stadium

After losing to one cellar-dweller at home, surely the Broncos won’t be taking a second sip from the same poisoned chalice?

It’ll be the South Sydney Rabbitohs looking to fill the Broncos cup with a less than palatable liquid when they visit Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.

After a horror run of results, matched only by their horror run of injuries, Wayne Bennett and his Bunnies find themselves on the bottom of the ladder.

It’s hard not to feel sorry for Souths, who locked in their date with eight straight losses last week against the Sharks, but we’re still valiant in defeat.

They are now staring at the very real possibility of collecting their first wooden spoon since 2006 and Wayne Bennett’s first of his career.

We’re not saying they can’t get out of this, we’re just saying we doubt any potential revival will probably have to wait at least a week.

We can’t see the Broncos getting bounced by another bottom club for the second week in succession, but maybe their former master coach has one of those famous ambushes stuffed up his sleeve.

Head-to-head prediction: Brisbane Broncos.

Betting tip: Big win, little win – Broncos 1-12.

Gold Coast Titans vs Penrith Panthers Prediction

Saturday, August 2, 3:00pm AEST – Cbus Super Stadium

Like the Eels, the Titans will go looking for unlikely consecutive scalps in NRL round 22. In proud Kiwi Kieran Foran’s last foray to New Zealand as an NRL player, the Gold Coast managed to upset the fourth placed Warriors.

Back at home this week, if they want to make it back-to-back wins, they’ll have to see off the fully reborn Penrith Panthers.

The reigning back-to-back-to-back-to-back premiers extended their winning streak to seven last week with a dominant 36-2 win over the Tigers.

They’re on the brink of breaking into the top four and if they do, the rest of the competition better get ready, because they’ll be hard to stop in finals footy.

They should also be hard to stop here, with all their stars fit and firing for effectively the first time this season, it should take a lot more than the 16th placed Titans to take them down.

Head-to-head prediction: Penrith Panthers.

Betting tip: Brian To’o first try scorer.

St George Illawarra Dragons vs Canberra Raiders Predictions

Saturday, August 2, 5:30pm AEST – WIN Stadium

The Dragon’s faint finals hopes were all but ended by the Cowboys last week in a 70-point firefight for the ages up north.

After trading a number of late tries, including a class double from dummy-half Jacob Liddle, the Dragons were ultimately slain and unfortunately it doesn’t get any easier for the Red V in round 22.

The welcome all-conquering Canberra to WIN Stadium on Saturday, looking to inflict defeat on the Raiders for the first time in ten games.

Yes, if the Raiders win here, it’ll be a perfect ten on the trot for Ricky Stuart’s men. If the Dragons weren’t already done, they should be after the Raiders are finished with them.

Head-to-head prediction: Canberra Raiders.

Betting tip: Kaeo Weekes first try scorer.

Manly Sea Eagles vs Sydney Roosters Prediction

Saturday, August 2, 7:35pm AEST – Brookvale Oval

Two teams who tasted defeat last time out meet when the Manly Sea Eagles welcome the Sydney Roosters to Brookvale Oval on Saturday.

They may both have lost last round, but we know who we’d rather be. The Rooster went down swinging in a crazy 34-30 contest against current premiership favourites Melbourne. Meanwhile Manly, who beat Melbourne a fortnight ago, went belly-up against the Bulldogs to the tune of 38 points.

The Sea Eagles offered little to nothing last week and even though they’re at home, we’re backing in the Roosters who seem to have reclaimed their attacking spark since Sam Walker rejoined their ranks.

Head-to-head prediction: Sydney Roosters.

Betting tip: Daniel Tupou first try scorer.

Wests Tigers vs Canterbury Bulldogs Prediction

Sunday, August 3, 2:00pm AEST – CommBank Stadium

Just in case they actually want to win a fourth consecutive wooden spoon, the Tigers keep making sure that they stay in touch with the bottom of the table.

After a gutsy one-point win, they reverted back to their old ways last week, with a toothless, try-less display against the Panthers.

Now they have to contend with a Bulldogs’ side, who after a small blip, are back on the war path.

Doubles to Samuel Hughes, Jacob Kiraz and Bronson Xerri last week helped them pummel Manly 42-4 and ensure they stay right in the minor premiership race. Unsurprisingly, you find us tipping the Tigers here.

Head-to-head prediction: Canterbury Bulldogs.

Betting tip: Jacob Kiraz or Bronson Xerri to score two or more tries.

Cronulla Sharks vs North Queensland Cowboys Prediction

Sunday, August 3, 4:05pm AEST – Shark Park

The final game of NRL round 22 sees the Cronulla Sharks welcome the North Queensland Cowboys to Shark Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Sharks held on for a narrow win over South Sydney last week, that now gives them a small cushion in the top eight.

For the Cowboys, even though they won in crazy fashion against the Dragons in their most recent outing, it’s a classic case of too little too late for Todd Payten’s men.

The Sharks simply have more to play for here and they also get to play for it in front of their own, they get our final tip of round 22.

Head-to-head prediction: Cronulla Sharks.

Betting tip: Under total match points.

Newcastle Knights – BYE

Respite for the Knights as they get a break from their horror 2025 with a bye in NRL round 22.
