Sydney Roosters vs Penrith Panthers Prediction – Round 7 2025

16/04/2025|Joel Caine|NRL Expert Predictions & Tips

For the second time already this season, the Sydney Roosters and the Penrith Panthers will do battle, but this time under very different circumstances.

When these old foes met back in round 2, the Chooks arrived at CommBank stadium as roughly 10/1 underdogs.

What then transpired was initially received as one of the great upsets of recent Rugby League history, we now know it simply a symptom of a greater problem.

That loss would prove to be the first of five in a row for Penrith, meaning they have not won a game since they last faced the Tri-colours.

Now staring down six straight Ls and the very real possibility of last place on the ladder, can the only mighty Panthers stop the rot and return to the winner’s circle? Let’s find out!

Here’s how these two teams will line up, as well as some betting tips for the H2H, first try scorer and over/under markets. This is our Roosters vs Panthers prediction.

Roosters vs Panthers Prediction and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

This truly is uncharted territory for Penrith. Five losses in a row, and only points difference keeping them off the foot of the ladder. Where do they go from here?

Obviously they have the talent to pick themselves off the canvas, but do they have the belief? Most of their players would never have experienced anything like this before.

It’s strange to think but in the space of six short rounds, the Panthers have gone from unbeatable to unpickable in our eyes and as a result we will be taking the Chooks here.

This decision was made even easier by their stunning win over the highly fancied Broncos at Lang Park last week.

Betting tip: Sydney Roosters.

First Try Scorer Prediction

With last week’s two try hero, Billy Smith, suspended courtesy of a careless high shot in his side’s upset win over Brisbane, we’ve had to go looking elsewhere for this market.

A Penrith outside back is always tempting, but we like the value play of picking someone like Angus Crichton.

A forward with known try-scoring prowess and recent line-finding form, running at a down-in-the-dumps Panthers’ defence? Sounds good to us.

Betting tip: Angus Crichton.

Over/Under Prediction

While their early season showdown yielded a total of 70 points, we’re actually going to back the under total match points to hit this time around.

That’s due to a couple of factors. Firstly, Penrith’s attack has diminished significantly over the last five rounds and each of Sydney's last four matches have gone under the total match points line.

Betting tip: Under total match points.
