South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Sydney Roosters Prediction
04/04/2025|Joel Caine|NRL Expert Predictions & Tips
It appears to be the round of returning superstars this week. Fresh off Nathan Cleary’s inclusion in Penrith’s team, Latrell Mitchell is back for the Bunnies.

It’s not all good news for Wayne Bennett’s side with try scoring freak Alex Johnston’s return lasting just one game.

The reinforcements are also inbound for the Roosters, with hooker Connor Watson back in action. Will the NSW representative’s inclusion be enough to return their season to the rails? Or are the wheels off for good?

Regardless of who runs out for either side, as the oldest and fiercest rivalry in all of Rugby League, this match rarely disappoints.

Let’s take a look at how these two sides will line up on Friday night, along with some betting tips for the H2H, first try scorer and over/under markets. Check out our Rabbitohs vs Roosters prediction and preview below.

Rabbitohs vs Roosters Prediction and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

Run rabbit run! Lesson learnt, never question Wayne Bennett. Widely considered the greatest coach Rugby League has ever seen for a reason, Uncle Wayne has got the undermanned and until now, underrated, Rabbitohs rocking.

They picked off the Panthers last week, have only one loss so far this season, and their fullback Jye Gray, who is a fill in for Latrell Micthell mind you, finds himself on top of the Dally M leaderboard.

Speaking of Mitchell, as previously mentioned, the mercurial fullback is back in action this week, just in time to face his former side.

Turns out you can’t drop currently leading the Dally M race to the bench. That means Mitchell won’t line up in his preferred position of fullback but will return in the centres.

Regardless, against a rapidly unravelling Roosters side, he and the Rabbitohs should be able to get one over their arch-rivals here.

Betting tip: South Sydney Rabbitohs.

First Try Scorer Prediction

Latrell Mitchell to open the scoring here anyone? What a story it would be. First game back from injury and against his former club, he lives to write headlines like this.

Outside of being a headline writer’s dream, there are stats to back up this prediction. Mitchell has scored at least one try in five of his last six appearances. Can he make it six in seven and more importantly, can he find the line before anyone else?

Betting tip: Latrell Mitchell.

Over Under Prediction

Despite being unanimously written off to start the season due to injuries and departures of key personnel, Wayne Bennett has guided the Rabbits to three wins from four so far in 2025.

A lot of their success is built around their newfound ability to grind out results, instead of relying on their attacking flair and individual moments of magic, like years gone by.

This is reflected in the fact that each of South Sydney's last four matches have gone under the total match points line.

Betting tip: Under total match points.
