Penrith Panthers vs Brisbane Broncos Prediction – Round 9 2025

01/05/2025|Joel Caine|NRL Expert Predictions & Tips

Fans will be treated to a rematch of the iconic 2023 Grand Final at this weekend’s Magic Round with the Penrith Panthers and Brisbane Broncos meeting at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

However, two years removed from that legendary decider, circumstances couldn’t be much different, particularly for the victors on that occasion – Penrith.

The Panthers were consigned to their sixth defeat of the season in just eight matches, and the bottom of the ladder, as they fell 26-10 at home to Manly last week in another poor showing.

The Broncos on the other hand are doing much better than their rivals as they look to return to finals this year. They’re currently comfortably sitting in fifth spot after a dominant performance against the previously undefeated Bulldogs.

A sensational first half where Brisbane scored 34 points and conceded zero laid the foundations for a 42-18 victory, which they will be looking to build off with another win here.

Here’s how these two teams will line up, as well as some betting tips for the H2H, first try scorer and over/under markets. This is our Panthers vs Broncos prediction.

Panthers vs Broncos Prediction and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

Yes, your eyes do not deceive you. The once unstoppable Penrith Panthers are currently last on the ladder.

How did we get here? Well, it looks like the salary cap truly is undefeated and you can only lose so many top-tier players before you are forced to return to the chasing pack.

After ending the Bulldogs' undefeated start to the season last week, the Broncos are easy tips here. Particularly as they get the added advantage of Magic Round taking place at their home stadium, despite this technically being listed as a Penrith home game.

The fact that we are firmly behind Brisbane here, shows just how out of form the Panthers are, as they have a sensational record against Brisbane, winning eight of their last nine matches against them.

Betting tip: Brisbane Broncos.

First Try Scorer Prediction

One of the Broncos biggest improvers over the last two seasons, outside back Jesse Arthars has established himself as a consistent try scorer for the Brisbane-based franchise.

Arthars has scored at least one try in eight of Brisbane's last nine matches and is out tip for first try scorer here.

Betting tip: Jesse Arthars.

Over/Under Prediction

Stats show that each of the last six matches between Penrith and Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium have gone under the total match points line.

When a form line is that defined, it becomes very hard to tip against. We’ll be taking the under total match points here.

Betting tip: Under total match points.
