Penrith Panthers vs Canterbury Bulldogs Prediction – Round 17 2025
25/06/2025|Joel Caine|NRL Expert Predictions & Tips
Back inside the top eight for the first time since the completion of round 1, the Penrith Panthers will now get to test their reclaimed mettle, when they face ladder leaders Canterbury at CommBank Stadium on Thursday night.

Despite currently being the team to beat, The Bulldogs have lost their last seven encounters with the Panthers.

Penrith shocked top four hopefuls, the Warriors, in Auckland last week while their Origin stars remained on ice for this assignment. That quintet of rep players have been named to return, while Scott Sorensen is out suspended, seeing Luke Garner stay in the 17.

The Dogs will be well rested after enjoying their third and final bye of the season. They regain Stephen Crichton, Matt Burton, Kurt Mann and Max King, who missed their most recent match, a win over Souths, while on Origin duty.

Let’s have a look at the full team lists for this one, along with betting tips for the H2H, first try scorer, and over/under markets. This is our Panthers vs Bulldogs prediction.

Panthers vs Bulldogs Prediction and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

This one will be a real battle of ‘master vs apprentice’ with Penrith the epitome of consistent success every club in the land aspires to be and Canterbury this season’s champions-elect, if the league table is to be believed.

It will also once again pit Ivan Cleary against his former assistant coach Cameron Ciraldo in a genuine ‘master vs apprentice’ matchup.

In terms of the result for this one, believe it or not, we’re taking Penrith, despite them sitting some seven spots below the Bulldogs.

The saw off the high-flying Warriors without their Origin stars last week, in New Zealand no less, with Nathan Cleary and co expected back on deck, the Doggies best watch out here.

Particularly when you consider that Penrith have won each of their last eight matches against teams on a winning streak.

Betting tip: Penrith Panthers.

First Try Scorer Prediction

A man in form, complimented by a favourable form line? We’re listening. Not only has Bulldogs winger Marcelo Montoya scored three tries in his last two games, but in each of Penrith's last six matches at CommBank Stadium, the opposition's starting left wing has scored at least one try.

Unsurprisingly, that’s where Montoya will be lining up for this one, hence why he is our tip for first try scorer here.

Betting tip: Marcelo Montoya.

Over/Under Prediction

We have a feeling both sides will approach this one rather cautiously and try and feel each other out.

This could lead to points being at a premium and when you also consider that each of Penrith's last five home matches have gone under the total match points line, taking the under here certainly starts to become an appealing option.

Betting tip: Under total match points.
