Newcastle Knights vs New Zealand Warriors Prediction – Round 20 2025
18/07/2025|Joel Caine|NRL Expert Predictions & Tips
Looking to get another winning streak going, the New Zealand Warriors will visit the Newcastle Knights at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday.

After a brief blip in form, the Warriors returned to winning ways despite missing several key troops due to injury, putting on a clinical display to defeat the Tigers 34-14 last week.

Halfback Tanah Boyd noticeably stepped up in the absence of Luke Metcalf in his first game for his new club. Meanwhile, the Knights will be ruing their defeat to Melbourne after failing to take advantage of a positive first half, letting an 8-2 lead slip to lose 32-14.

Dane Gagai will start at fullback, while Tyson Gamble joins Newcastle’s bench following Dylan Lucas’ injury.

Warriors centre Rocco Berry is out after suffering an injury, with Queensland hero Kurt Capewell his replacement. New Zealand will be looking to repeat the dosage after defeating the Knights 26-12 on ANZAC Day. Can they do it?

Here are our betting tips for the H2H, first try scorer, and over/under markets for this game. As well as the full team lists for both sides. This is our Knights vs Warriors prediction.

Knights vs Warriors Prediction and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

The final game of NRL round 20 sees the wounded Warriors travel to Hunter Valley to take on the Newcastle Knights.

The Wahs proved they are greater than the sum of their parts last week, winning their first game without main man Luke Metcalf who won’t be back in 2025 after rupturing his ACL.

For Newcastle, the sun has all but set on their season. Yes, they showed a decent amount of fight against Melbourne last week, courtesy of an early Dom Young double, but one more loss and we’ll most likely have to call time on any potential final’s participation for Adam O’Brien’s men.

Watches at the ready. We’re backing the Warriors to be the ones to deliver the coup de grace to Knights in 2025.

Betting tip: New Zealand Warriors.

First Try Scorer Prediction

In an interesting stat, in each of New Zealand's last three matches as a favourite, their starting left centre has scored a try.

On Sunday, it will be returning QLD Origin hero Kurt Capewell who will be lining up there for the Kiwis.

Look to him to muscle his way over or get on the end of a sneaky Tanah Boyd grubber early in this one.

Betting tip: Kurt Capewell.

Over/Under Prediction

Our general rule of thumb this season has been to back the unders in this market whenever Newcastle are involved.

We’ve got even more reason to do so this week, as nine of the last 11 matches between Newcastle and New Zealand have gone under the total match points line.

Betting tip: Under total match points.
