Newcastle Knights vs Penrith Panthers Prediction – Round 23 2025
06/08/2025|Joel Caine|NRL Expert Predictions & Tips
The Penrith Panthers will aim to extend their eight-match winning streak to nine, when they visit the Newcastle Knights at McDonald Jones Stadium on Friday evening.

After blowing a 24-0 half-time lead against the Titans last week, the Panthers needed a two-point field goal from Nathan Cleary to force golden point, where they triumphed 30-26.

The Knights will be hoping their Round 21 bye can help them avoid a fifth straight loss, with the most recent being a 44-18 whack from Canberra.

On the team front, Newcastle welcome back Bradman Best and will hand a club debut to Jake Arthur at five-eighth as he replaces Tyson Gamble.

Jackson Hastings and Jack Hetherington have been dropped, replaced by Thomas Cant and Elijah Salesa-Leaumoana.

There’s a big blow for Penrith with Isaah Yeo is out with a shoulder injury, which sees Isaiah Papali'i start at lock and Liam Martin into the second row.

Knights vs Panthers Prediction and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

After taking part in the most entertaining game of the season, the Penrith Panthers will travel to the Hunter Valley as they look to keep their remarkable win streak alive.

After a golden point epic up on the Gold Coast that included a two-point field goal from Nathan Cleary to level proceedings at 26-26 with a minute to play, the Panthers now sit just one point outside of the top four.

If they win here and the Warriors lose later in the week, they will have gone from dead last to fourth on the back of a nine-game winning streak, in scenes rarely seen before.

We’re backing them to keep up their end of the bargain against a rested, but ultimately lacklustre Newcastle outfit.

Betting tip: Penrith Panthers.

First Tryscorer Prediction

Thomas Jenkins has scored at least one try in each of Penrith's last five away matches. He also opened the scoring last week and has become one of Nathan Cleary’s favourite aerial targets.

He’s got plenty going for him and presents a very viable option for the first try scorer market in our opinion.

Betting tip: Thomas Jenkins.

Line Prediction

Penrith has failed to cover the line in five of its last six matches against teams on a losing streak.

Betting tip: Newcastle Knights (+11.5).
